Clayton Kershaw‘s final MLB game ended in a World Series victory. The Los Angeles Dodgers came back from behind and stunned the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 7 to go back-to-back as champions. Following their triumph, the 3-time Cy Young Award winner threw a shade at the Houston Astros regarding their sign-stealing scandal.
The southpaw recently joined his teammates Kike Hernandez, Will Smith, and Blake Snell on Mookie Betts‘ On Base podcast. The Dodgers’ star would discuss about the World Series and have a long conversation.
During this, Betts would ask Kershaw whether this was the best series that he had been part of in his illustrious career. The 37-year-old expressed that this was the 2nd time he had been part of a 7-game World Series. He would then proceed to take an indirect jibe at the Astros.
I’ve been in one other 7-game World Series and we lost that one… ah, well there’s an asterisk on that one.

Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers took on the Astros in the 2017 World Series. The veteran pitcher picked up the win in Game 1 but got a no-decision in an epic 13-12 Game 5. The Astros ended up winning the series by taking Game 7 and claiming their first World Series title.
After losing the World Series in 2019 against the Washington Nationals, the Astros were found to be stealing signs during the 2017 and 2018 seasons. The American League side would illegally use a video camera to learn about the upcoming pitches.
They would then use this information and relay the messages back to the hitters through various methods. After the scandal broke out, the Astros were fined $5 million and stripped off their first and second round draft picks in the 2020 and 2021 MLB drafts.
General Manager Jeff Luhnow and manager A.J. Hinch were also suspended. However, no players were banned for this.
Many have urged the MLB to strip the Astros of their title in 2017. As a result of this scandal, several people started adding an “asterisk” to the 2017 World Series.
Clayton Kershaw claims he had no idea that Dodgers won the 2025 World Series
The Los Angeles Dodgers and the Toronto Blue Jays gave it all they had in Game 7. In the end, only one could win. During his appearance at the On Base podcast, Clayton Kershaw expressed that he had no idea that his team had won the World Series.

The Dodgers were 4-2 down when they headed into the 8th inning. A solo home run from Max Muncy made it a 4-3 game. In the 9th inning, they levelled the scores through a solo home run off the bat of Miguel Rojas.
After some brilliant defensive showing in the bottom of the 9th inning, the game went into extra innings. The Dodgers had Yoshinobu Yamamoto on the mound. The Japanese pitcher entered this game after throwing 96 pitches a day before in Game 6.
A third solo home run of the game for the Dodgers in the 11th inning saw them take the lead. Catcher Will Smith belted one towering shot in left field off Shane Bieber to make it a 5-4 lead.
The Blue Jays responded with a double from Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to start the bottom of the 11th inning. With no outs, Clayton Kershaw and Roki Sasaki started warming up in the bullpen.
The 11-time All-Star had no idea that Isiah-Kiner Falefa had a sacrifice bunt. After seeing the double play. Kershaw thought that there was still one out remaining. It was his pitching coach who informed him that they had won.
I had no idea we won the World Series… So Alejandro Kirk grounds into the double play, and I’m thinking, ‘OK two outs, run scored, game’s tied. They’ve got a lefty Daulton Varsho up, I’m in the game.’ And [bullpen coach Josh Bard’s] just looking in my face like, ‘Why are you throwing? It’s over, we won the World Series.’ He’s the one telling me we won the World Series.

The Dodgers thus became the first team in 25 years to repeat as World Series Champions. It was also the first time in their franchise history that they had successfully defended their title. They have now set their sights on a three-peat next year.
