Chelsea are set to undergo another major ownership change after co-owner Clearlake Capital is reportedly willing to buy out Todd Boehly’s stake in the club. A deal would also see the American businessman relinquishing his role as the chairman of the Blues.

The Premier League giants are currently owned by a joint consortium, named BlueCo, led by Todd Boehly, Clearlake Capital, Mark Walter and Hansjorg Wyss. It had bought the club in 2022, from former Russian owner Roman Abramovich, who had to walk out due to sanctions. BlueCo completed a £4.25 billion takeover, following which they took control of the club, Stamford Bridge and Chelsea Foundation. US-based Clearlake controls a majority of the club’s shares, at 61.5 percent.

However, there have been serious disagreements between Boehly and Clearlake over the past few months, resulting in an ownership feud. Under chairman Boehly, the club has spent more than 1 billion in transfers, but it has brought little impact. Owing to this dissatisfaction, Clearlake is now considering buying out Boehly’s shares, in order to remove his influence and change the club’s existing governing structure. It would also strip the American businessman of his say in the Blues financial decisions.

Moreover, the upcoming ownership change could lead to Clearlake Capital co-founder Behdad Eghbali taking up a more prominent role at the club. The Iranian-American investor had previously been key to the Enzo Maresca‘s appointment as manager, against the wishes of Boehly.

Chelsea enter race to sign Lecce full-back Patrick Dorgu next summer

The Blues have reportedly entered the race to sign talented Danish left-back Patrick Dorgu, from Serie A side Lecce. He was a Tottenham transfer target this summer, but Lecce’s asking price for the full-back was deemed to be too high.

Chelsea has reportedly entered into negotiations with the Italian side. Dorgu shone for Lecce last season, scoring two goals in 38 appearances. He most recently struck the winning goal for Denmark, just 42 seconds after making his debut in a Nations League match against Switzerland. Lecce, however, could demand a massive fee of around £25 million to let go of the 19-year-old left-back.

Dorgu could join Chelsea next summer, as a replacement for club outcast Ben Chilwell, who failed to make his way out of London this summer. The Chelsea vice-captain has fallen out of favor under new manager, Enzo Maresca.
