CM Punk is considered a huge student of professional wrestling and pays tribute to the legends that came before him. He does this by performing their moves as a sign of respect and crediting them in his interviews. The Best in the World recently faced off against Drew McIntyre at SummerSlam, with Seth Rollins as the special guest referee. The 45-year-old paid tribute to WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart during the match.
Punk came out to the ring wearing special attire for this match. His trunks and his boots along the shin were colored bright pink. This attire was a straightforward reference to Bret Hart. If there was any doubt left in the minds of fans, the former AEW star later confirmed it on his Instagram story. He claimed to have nothing but respect for the best there was, the best there is, and the best there ever will be.
The song playing in the background of the aforementioned story was also titled ‘My Hero,’ indicating how much he looked up to the wrestling legend. The Voice of the Voiceless posted a few more photos of himself wearing the attire. Unfortunately, he ended up losing that match. Punk has made it no secret that he is a huge fan of the 67-year-old. Many fans even see similarities in their in-ring wrestling styles.
Punk also paid tribute to Hart during one of his WWE appearances last year. The former WWE Champion made a surprise appearance at NXT: Deadline 2023. He was visibly wearing a pink Bret Hart hoodie. Ironically, he then had a hilarious segment with one of the Hitman’s greatest rivals of his career, Shawn Michaels.
CM Punk set to appear on the first episode of NXT on CW in his hometown of Chicago
WWE signed a five-year partnership with the CW Network for NXT’s broadcasting rights. The promotion makes sure to load up the card for the first episode of a WWE show when it moves to a new network. The company is making no exceptions this time, as CM Punk is set to appear on NXT when it moves to CW.
The October 1st, 2024, episode of NXT will be the first of many episodes to air on the CW Network. The show will emanate from the Allstate Arena in Chicago, Punk’s hometown. WWE has advertised that the Best in the World will be making a special guest appearance during the episode.
However, this is not the only big superstar WWE plans to send to NXT in October. The very next episode, airing on October 8th, will be hosted in St. Louis and will feature hometown hero Randy Orton making a special appearance.
