It’s been almost a year since CM Punk parted ways with AEW. After making his blockbuster wrestling return, he bid adieu to the company following a string of backstage incidents. However, he has never shown his back to the friends he made in the company. Recently, the Best in the World shared some pictures with his friends, which showed him reuniting with a couple of top AEW stars.
On Instagram, the Second City Saint posted a bunch of pictures he clicked in July. One of them was with former TNT Champion Darby Allin and Brody King. The picture has generated a lot of attention online, as many can’t believe he was spending time with someone from AEW. It looks unexpected, as most fans assume that Tony Khan‘s promotion has been on loggerheads with Punk ever since his backstage altercation with Jack Perry.
Moreover, Darby Allin and CM Punk have quite a history. Allin was the first star the Best in the World faced when he returned to professional wrestling in AEW in 2021. Speaking of pictures, the Straight Edge Superstar’s biggest rival at the moment, Drew McIntyre, also shared a picture with Perry recently before deleting it within hours.
After months of back-and-forth shots, Punk will finally clash with the former WWE Champion at SummerSlam. The stage is set and will be officiated by none other than Seth Rollins, who explained his rules this week on Raw.
CM Punk addressed why he has friction with other stars in his career
CM Punk has been a controversial figure in the entirety of his career. From the infamous Pipebomb to unexpectedly leaving WWE, he has been a focal point of discussion among various fans and even wrestlers. Recently, the Best in the World addressed why he has “problems” with so many stars in his career.
Speaking on ESPN’s First Take, the Second City Saint stated that he stands by what he believes. He called himself “polarizing” and added that he speaks up for himself. It doesn’t please everyone. In addition to that, the Voice of the Voiceless said that he is friendly most of the time. However, when he is pushed, he pushes back with the same force.
I’m very polarizing, for some odd reason. I tend to say how I feel, to a fault, I stand up for myself. Lot of people don’t like that and there’s always friction. I will be as polite and as kind to anybody I possibly can and, when they step out of line, I’m kind of the guy that checks them.CM Punk via First Take
Moreover, the Straight Edge Superstar has been embroiled in several off-screen conundrums. He was fired by AEW after his aforementioned fight with Jack Perry. Since joining WWE, however, Punk has been a welcome addition to the roster. Therefore, the Stamford-based promotion is reportedly planning to lock him into a major contract.
