Did WWE go too far in pulling the curtain back with the release of WWE: Unreal? CM Punk joined the Good Guy/Bad Guy podcast days before SummerSlam to lend his two cents on the matter. ‘The Best in the World’ didn’t glorify the concept behind the 5-episode docuseries, which underscores his old-fashioned wrestling mindset. However, there’s a flip side to it.

Punk said that the Netflix-produced series gave the viewers a chance to know the human side of these wrestlers who play different characters for entertainment purposes. The former AEW star specifically mentioned Charlotte Flair as an example of someone who’s been grossly misunderstood by the fans over the years. But a peek into the docuseries must have humanized her for the audience, added Punk.

And for somebody like Charlotte, I think who’s, you know, a lot of the times grossly misunderstood, I think this kind of softens her a little bit, and you get to see, you know, Ashley instead of Charlotte……….

The Second City Saints’ backing for ‘The Queen’ has been greatly appreciated by the netizens. While he claimed that he didn’t come back to WWE to make friends, Punk seems to have found one in the 14-time women’s champion. Flair has received a plethora of polarizing reactions throughout her WWE career, most of which stemmed from her on-screen persona.

However, things started to get under her skin earlier this year while she was feuding with Tiffany Stratton. The latter’s personal life remarks completely ruffled the veteran wrestler, and it transcended the realm of kayfabe and reality. Flair, or the real-life Ashley Fliehr, was emotionally wrecked by the flak she’d been getting from the fans, which perfectly aligns with Punk’s “grossly misunderstood” phrasing.

What’s next for CM Punk after SummerSlam heartbreak?

This past weekend ended up being a train wreck for CM Punk. Although he conquered the menace of Gunther and ousted him for the World Heavyweight Championship, it ended rather tragically for the 46-year-old. While the latter was basking in the admiration of the WWE Universe at MetLife Stadium, Seth Rollins‘ music hit, and Punk’s expressions were aptly telling the entire story.

‘The Visionary’ entered on crutches, warned Punk, and turned back as if he was leaving. However, Paul Heyman‘s current client dropped many jaws by revealing that he’d been faking a knee injury since Saturday Night’s Main Event. Rollins grabbed his Money in the Bank briefcase and made a beeline for the ring. ‘The Architect’ attacked a physically exhausted Punk with the briefcase and eventually cashed it in.

Rollins stomped Punk’s head into the canvas to become a 6-time world champion in WWE. And just like that, ‘The Best in the World’ registered an unwanted record against his name of his shortest-ever championship reign. To avenge this, the ‘Second City Saint’ crashed Rollins’ first title defense against LA Knight on the subsequent edition of Raw. While Punk’s target was to just get his hands on the former Shield member, it did enough collateral damage to ‘The Megastar’ as well.

Knight could’ve dramatically upset Rollins had it not been for Punk screwing things up for him. ‘The Straight Edge Superstar’ was ultimately taken down by Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed, and so was ‘The Megastar’. Their beatdown was followed by an appearance from Roman Reigns, who tried his best to defy a 3-on-1 disadvantage but failed.

The Rollins-led faction annihilated Reigns to stand tall at the end of the show. It’s rumored that Rollins, Breakker, and Reed will square off against Reigns, Punk, and Knight in a massive 6-man tag team showdown at Clash in Paris. ‘The Best in the World’ and ‘The OTC’ have joined forces in the past, with their latest alliance dating back to November 2024 inside War Games.
