CM Punk and The Rock have a ton of history in WWE. The People’s Champion ended the Straight Edge Superstar’s 434-day WWE Championship reign. Furthermore, the Chicago native was also upset, maybe and maybe even otherwise, that the Hollywood superstar stole his WrestleMania main event. Now, this rivalry goes back over a decade, and it looks like the 46-year-old is willing to bury the hatchet.
Punk’s latest Instagram story featured a snapshot from a Marvel comic. The picture features Doctor Doom trying to convince his old foe, Spider-Man, to forget the past and become friends with him. This Instagram story could be a sign that the Best in the World wants to forget about his rivalry with The Rock, perhaps even form an alliance.
This story was promoted by The Great One’s return to WWE on the latest episode of SmackDown. He began by announcing the location of WrestleMania 42 and sang his own rendition of “When The Saints Go Marching In.” Following this, he called Cody Rhodes out to the ring for a word. The Brahms Bull said that he had a proposal, and he wanted the WWE Undisputed Champion to be “his champion.”

The 52-year-old claimed to be the most powerful man in WWE, having everything that he could have ever asked for. Furthermore, he said that he could do the same for the former AEW EVP by opening up endless doors and opportunities for him. Rhodes looked very confused by this offer and wondered if it was his title that the Hollywood superstar was after. The Most Electrifying Man in Sports Entertainment denied it and said that he was after his soul.
What is the history between CM Punk and Cody Rhodes?
The history between CM Punk and Cody Rhodes goes back decades, tracing back to their early days in WWE. The 2x Royal Rumble winner said that he really liked the Chicago native, even referring to him as a locker room leader in OVW. However, these two never crossed paths in a significant manner in WWE programming.

Both of them were also in AEW together, albeit for a brief period of time, and never interacted there on screen either. Their first big segment together came after CM Punk returned to WWE in 2023. They met up before the 2024 Royal Rumble, had a highly compelling promo, and were also the final two superstars remaining in the 30-man match that year.
On the go-home Raw before the 2025 Royal Rumble, these two superstars met up once again. Punk said that he was the 39-year-old’s friend, especially after Dusty Rhodes had told him to look after his son. However, the Second City Saint claimed that if he won the Royal Rumble, he would be coming after the WWE Undisputed Championship. The two then had a war of words and an intense staredown as the show went off the air.
