Jannik Sinner has now won five Grand Slam titles under coaches Darren Cahill and Simone Vagnozzi. In the Wimbledon final, held on Sunday (July 12), Sinner clinched a four-set win over Alexander Zverev to defend his crown, becoming the 10th man in the Open Era to win back-to-back titles in the tournament.
The Italian ace clinched his 10th consecutive win over the German and improved his head-to-head record to 11-4. It was also their fifth meeting this season.
Before his latest win, the World No.1 had not lifted a Major since his victory over Carlos Alcaraz in last year’s Wimbledon. Last year, before the grass-court Major, Cahill had made a bet with Sinner about his coaching future.
As per the bet, Cahill’s future lay in the hands of his protege. And because Sinner, who always wanted to continue working with the Aussie coach, won the bet, Cahill remained a part of his team for this season.
No bet this year. No bet this year. I’m here until the end of 2026, and then we’ll see. I did say at the end of 2025 I was finished, and I turned around and changed my mind. We’ll get through the end of the year, and we’ll sit down as a team and talk about what’s best for Jannik.
Darren Cahill said at the press conference after Jannik Sinner’s win
Sinner clinched his sixth title of the season at the All England Club. Before Wimbledon, he won titles in Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo, Madrid, and Rome.
Jannik Sinner says not winning a Grand Slam final is not a failure
At the start of the season, Novak Djokovic dashed Jannik Sinner‘s dream of a hat-trick of Australian Open titles, defeating him in the semifinals. And then he failed to complete the Career Grand Slam due to his defeat to Juan Manuel Cerundolo in the French Open second round. After his latest win, Sinner said that had he lost the final, it would not have mattered much.

I don’t think it’s relief, to be honest. The only thing I’m very happy is that I’m trying to do my best every day. Sometimes you have a tournament with a good outcome. Sometimes you just don’t have…there’s nothing you can do about it. There’s no failure if you don’t win a Grand Slam.
Jannik Sinner said at the press conference
Alexander Zverev was bidding to win his second title of the season. It was the third time Zverev played a final this season after the Madrid Open and the French Open. In Madrid, Sinner was his opponent. He will remove Carlos Alcaraz from the second spot in the rankings table. The seven-time Grand Slam champion hasn’t yet played since the 2024 Barcelona Open.
It’s very, very rare days. Now I have five in my whole life. We talk about five Grand Slams, but at the end of the day, these are five days of so many other days. You just want to enjoy it. Today was a very tough day. If I lose, it’s still a great day. Playing a Grand Slam final is so rare and so special.
Jannik Sinner added
Sinner is now a three-time champion on grass. Prior to the two Wimbledon trophies, he clinched the 2024 Halle Open.
But Zverev, who has now played four finals on grass, has never tasted success on the surface. The only title that he has won this season is the French Open by beating Flavio Cobolli. Sinner has become the eighth man in the Open Era to win the trophy at SW19 after skipping the warm-up tournaments on grass.
