Coco Gauff is back in business at the Australian Open, where she’s seeking to win her third career Grand Slam. However, the American No.1 found herself in a weird position at the tournament alongside former player Chris Eubanks. Gauff was seen during an interview with Eubanks struggling to refrain from laughing while on air.
Gauff is the third seed at the Australian Open, and she kicked off her campaign with a straightforward win over Kamilla Rakhimova. In the second round, she faced Olga Danilovic, who had defeated tennis legend Venus Williams in the opening match of the Melbourne Grand Slam event.
However, Gauff passed the test against Danilovic and firmly established herself as one of the top contenders for the Australian Open. However, after her first-round win, she demonstrated her playful side with Eubanks. Eubanks, who retired from professional tennis last year, has been among the commentary team for ESPN at the tournament.
During the interview, Gauff was asked about her match, and she acknowledged that she felt satisfied with her performance. Eubanks then interjected with another question, but the WTA superstar couldn’t keep a straight face. She at first began smiling at Eubanks, who noticed it and said:
Don’t do this again, don’t do this again, you’ve done this before.
Eubanks tried to keep the interview on track, but Gauff had already burst into laughter. She then apologized to him:
I’m sorry, I can’t help it.

This is not the first time Gauff has demonstrated her playful side when interviewed by Eubanks. She did a similar thing at the 2024 US Open, but the former ATP player found a way to overlook it. Eubanks and Gauff have always been friends and on many occasions shown their special connection.
Nonetheless, Gauff hopes the interviews with Eubanks help her relax at the Australian Open as she’s under immense pressure to win the championship. She’s among the favorites, likewise Aryna Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek, Jessica Pegula, Amanda Anisimova, and Elena Rybakina, and she will have to be at her best to win the first Grand Slam of the season.
Coco Gauff says she needs to be aggressive to be at her best on the court
Coco Gauff continued her perfect display at the Australian Open. This time around, she needed just an hour and 17 minutes to beat Olga Danilovic in the second round. The American star showed improvements in her serve, hitting 14 winners and just 17 unforced errors against Danilovic, with just one double fault.

It was a significant improvement from the 31 unforced errors and seven double faults in her opening match. During her press conference, she revealed that the only way for her to continue improving her performance is to maintain her aggressive style of play. She added that she needs to dominate proceedings on the court to get a good result:
I know I need to continue being aggressive. There was a time when I thought I should be much more offensive, hit flatter, and constantly seek winners, but that’s not the style I feel comfortable with. I want to dictate on the court, but by using spin, playing high balls, with variations. I believe that style of play makes more sense than that of many other players, and I just need to control not being too passive.
Gauff will face fellow American Hailey Baptiste in the third round of the Australian Open. Baptiste has enjoyed an unprecedented form, beating Taylor Townsend in the opening round and then Storm Hunter in the second. Gauff has not gone beyond the semi-finals of the Melbourne Grand Slam and will be seeking to break the jinx this year.
