Cody Brundage is the biggest underdog in UFC history. At the recent UFC 300 media day, Brundage talked about his opponent, Bo Nickal, in length. The NCAA Division I National champion has a lot of hype around him. However, Brundage felt people overrated Nickal.
Cody Brundage is not bothered by the projected odds going into his upcoming fight against Bo Nickal. The unranked middleweight said he felt like sometimes these projections consisted of various narratives. Moreover, he felt the betting odds in favor of Nickal did not make sense.
At the end of the day, Bo Nickal’s never been hit – so for him to be that kind of favorite, it just seems ins*ne to me. Obviously, I’m a little biased, but that seems pretty wild. I know people think he’s like the second coming of Jesus Christ in MMA, but I just don’t see it.Cody Brundage via UFC 300 media day
Nickal is still at the dawn of his career, while Brundage has a few more fights under his belt. The college wrestling standout is currently undefeated, and all of his fights have ended in the first round. Hence, Brundage hopes to test Bo Nickal as the wrestler has never faced much adversity in his career before.
Brundage might have something special planned to take out Nickal. Cody Brundage believed he worked with much better-quality fighters than Nickal. As such, Brundage had the advantage in the approach to training. Nickal does not have much experience. As such, his opponent could pull off an upset in the most complicated sport in history.
Cody Brundage comments on Bo Nickal’s preparation for UFC 300
Cody Brundage recently did an interview with MMA News. There, he told Ryan Jarell what he thought about his upcoming opponent. Bo Nickal trains at the renowned American Top Team (ATT) facility in Pennsylvania.
Brundage was aware of this but believed Nickal had not trained with the best professionals that the renowned American Top Team has to offer. There is a huge difference between ATT in Florida and ATT in Pennsylvania.
I don't really put too much stock into the fact that he's training with good guys, 'cause he's at his own thing, right?' He's an ATT guy; we see Mike Brown in his corner. But for the most part, he's training at Pennsylvania at his own gym, Happy Valley ATT.Cody Brundage via MMA News
On the other hand, Cody Brundage revealed he has been working with former PFL champion Rob Wilkinson. He is confident in his preparation and the hard work he put in. It will be interesting to see if the biggest underdog in UFC history delivers Nickal the first loss in his MMA career.
