Cody Rhodes has been WWE’s top babyface for the past three years, building a rare and genuine connection with the audience that has cemented his place in their hearts. Since his return in 2022, there have been multiple opportunities where a heel turn could have made sense.
Yet, ‘The American Nightmare’ has consistently stayed true to his character, embracing the values of a classic babyface. But with WWE’s landscape constantly evolving, the question remains — how long can he resist the turn?
In an interview with Kay Adams, ‘The Prodigal Son’ shared that he’s thoroughly enjoying his run as a babyface in WWE. However, he acknowledged that all good things eventually come to an end, including his current role. Rhodes brought up The Rock, revealing that ‘The Final Boss’ had urged him to turn heel earlier this year.
I think you have a good solid year, maybe even three years because I am not changing until I’m changed if that makes any sense. If The Rock had it his way I would’ve been changed already. He sees something maybe I don’t see and that’s a very smart individual so maybe I follow his lead.

According to the 39-year-old, that suggestion might be a sign that The Rock sees something bigger in a potential character shift. As a result, a heel turn could very well be on the horizon. In fact, Cody Rhodes admitted that he feels he’s nearing the end of his babyface run, hinting that fans might witness something wild unfold in the coming months.

It’s also worth noting that ‘The Great One’ expressed similar sentiments earlier this year following WrestleMania, further fueling speculation about a major shift in Cody’s character. It is a clear hint that fans might witness an angle between ‘The Final Boss’ and ‘The American Nightmare’ down the line. With that said, it remains to be seen what the future holds for Rhodes in WWE from here on.
Cody Rhodes heaped praises on Kevin Owens, five months after their heated feud
Earlier this year, Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens went to war, with ‘The Prizefighter’ determined to end ‘The American Nightmare’s title reign. Their fierce rivalry produced some of the year’s best matches. Recently, the two reunited on a podcast, where they opened up about their off-screen friendship. During the conversation, Rhodes took a moment to praise Owens, offering heartfelt appreciation for his longtime peer.

Speaking on the What Do You Wanna Talk About? podcast, Rhodes revealed that Owens is one of his closest friends in real life. ‘The Prodigal Son’ praised ‘The Prizefighter’ for changing the course of professional wrestling with his impact and performances. Rhodes expressed deep gratitude for having someone like Owens in his life, both personally and professionally.
And somebody who changed the course of professional wrestling in general by the things he did. Changed my course at least, helping me out, sending me out into the unknown with the proper information, which I needed at the time. Following my career, keeping up with me, one of my, again, I might be like my dad with five friends, maybe it’s less, he is certainly one of them, an exceptional human being.

Moreover, the former Universal Champion opened up about various aspects of his career. He expressed deep gratitude for having the opportunity to work in professional wrestling but admitted there’s a sense of sadness as he faces the reality that he might not be able to do what he loves for much longer. Despite that, Owens acknowledged his rivalry with Rhodes as some of the best work of his entire WWE career.
Cody Rhodes will face Randy Orton for the first time in over a decade
Cody Rhodes has been riding red-hot momentum in recent weeks. Since making his return at Saturday Night’s Main Event, Rhodes has picked up major wins over top names like Jey Uso and John Cena. However, he now faces his toughest challenge yet — a showdown with his former mentor, Randy Orton.

‘The American Nightmare’ advanced to the King of the Ring finals this week on Raw after a hard-fought victory over Jey Uso. Meanwhile, Orton earned his place in the finals last week on SmackDown by defeating Sami Zayn. With both superstars setting their sights on a World Title opportunity at SummerSlam, the stage is set for a high-stakes clash.
Furthermore, Rhodes is currently a favorite to win the King of the Ring tournament. But in the past, The Viper has dropped massive teases for a heel turn against ‘The American Nightmare.’ Therefore, only time will tell what WWE has in store for this epic showdown at Night of Champions.
