This week’s SmackDown kicked off with Cody Rhodes blindsiding Drew McIntyre as the latter was making his way to the ring. ‘The American Nightmare’ toyed with the Undisputed WWE Champion at ringside before the Scot eventually eloped.

Rhodes proceeded on to cut a promo, and he made it abundantly clear that he wouldn’t let McIntyre have a smile on his face after he sneak-attacked the former AEW EVP in the men’s Royal Rumble match.

The mid-Rumble claymore kick on Rhodes resulted in his elimination and kept the 40-year-old from aiming for a three-peat of Royal Rumble match victories. ‘The QB1’ also talked about the incredible segment between Roman Reigns and CM Punk, whom he respected. Rhodes said he’s excited about the prospect of them settling their differences.

The erstwhile Stardust also addressed that he heard it’s going to be a “you-know-what measuring contest.” Rhodes then dropped that cheeky NSFW “Cody Raheem Rhodes” meme, saying both Reigns and Punk would be glad he’s not in the mix, as he didn’t get the “Raheem” nickname for no reason. For the unversed, that meme came into existence after a 2021 promo that Rhodes cut in AEW.

‘The American Nightmare’ talked about getting married to a Black woman and therefore having a biracial daughter. It gave birth to the “Raheem” nickname, which has since been used for Cody Rhodes in social media banter. ‘The Quarterback’ mentioned it publicly for the first time on SmackDown this Friday. But the son of the late great Dusty Rhodes wondered why his name has been everywhere since Monday.

It’s because the fans know what WrestleMania means to him, and the converse is true as well. Cody Rhodes said he was in discomfort and shame coming out in front of the fans in Charlotte without the WWE title. ‘The Prodigal Son’ dubbed it as a Drew McIntyre problem.

Rhodes affirmed that the Scotsman wasn’t irate the entire time because he didn’t have the world title around his waist. In fact, he was mad just because Rhodes had it. He then stated that his discomfort and shame would become the reason for McIntyre’s downfall, as he wouldn’t even make it to WrestleMania.

Cody Rhodes set for Elimination Chamber qualifier on next week’s SmackDown

After delivering a fiery opening promo segment, Cody Rhodes was spotted being held back by the security backstage, with GM Nick Aldis asking the ‘QB1’ to keep his emotions in check. Aldis said he knew that Rhodes couldn’t wait to get his hands on Drew McIntyre, but the only way to do it was by winning the Elimination Chamber.

The on-screen WWE authority figure said he was mulling over putting Rhodes in a triple-threat qualifying match next week, given he wouldn’t stage any further ruckus. Drew McIntyre, who got ambushed in the beginning of the show, couldn’t catch a break, and it was Jacob Fatu‘s turn the second time around.

‘The Samoan Werewolf’ ambushed the WWE Champion and forced the Ayr-born wrestler to scamper from ringside. Fatu and Rhodes have now been put in the same qualifier for the Elimination Chamber with Sami Zayn as the third participant.

It would be interesting to see if Zayn takes advantage of the burgeoning animosity between Cody Rhodes and Jacob Fatu to sneak his way into the Chamber match slated for February 28 in Chicago.
