Since his WWE return at WrestleMania 38, Cody Rhodes has become one of the company’s biggest stars. However, through all his ups and downs, one person who always stood by him was his wife, Brandi Rhodes. She has supported him during his struggles and remained a driving force in his life. Recently, The American Nightmare shared how his relationship with Brandi began.

Cody Rhodes was the second guest on Stephanie McMahon‘s new show, Stephanie’s Places. He shared that Brandi Rhodes made the first move by playfully blowing into his ear at a show. The American Nightmare recalled telling her that her hair was too big for TV. While he insisted it was just professional advice, Brandi took it as flirting.

The WWE Champion shared that as he went in for a casual hug, Brandi blew in his ear, making him feel like ‘Dashing Cody Rhodes’ was real. The couple met during their early days in WWE when Rhodes was a rising star and Brandi worked as a ring announcer under the name Eden Stiles. They got married in September 2013 and celebrated their 11th anniversary last year. They also have a daughter, Liberty.

I thought she was beautiful, the most amazing eyes I’ve ever seen in my life, locked in, but at that moment I was legit telling her. Once she assumed that I had flirted with her, and I went to give the half-hug, which is an appropriate hug for peers, and she blew in my ear. And, at that point, I thought Dashing Cody Rhodes is a real thing.

As WWE Champion, Rhodes faces his toughest challenge yet against John Cena. Cena shocked the world by turning heel and aligning with The Rock to attack Rhodes. However, The American Nightmare got his revenge by hitting Cena with a Cross Rhodes on the latest episode of Raw.

Brandi Rhodes’ amusing reaction after hearing Cody Rhodes’ story about how their relationship began

Cody Rhodes shared a wholesome story about how his relationship with Brandi Rhodes began. However, according to Brandi, the events he described to Stephanie weren’t entirely true. When The Billion Dollar Princess asked for her side of the story, Brandi laughed it off, saying her husband had exaggerated the moment.

The Bionic Beauty clarified that she simply gave Rhodes a hug and wasn’t intentionally blowing in his ear—she was just breathing. She joked about letting him believe otherwise. However, she admitted that moment helped build immense trust between them. Their love was so strong that in 2016, she left WWE just days after Rhodes requested his release.

This is probably what he told you that was wrong. I gave him a hug, just like everybody else was getting a hug, and he says I blew in his ear. That is not true! I was just breathing [laughs]. I was just breathing. I did not blow in his ear. It’s crazy. I was just like, ‘Okay,’ we’ll let him think I blew in his ear. But then from that point there was trust, so we started hanging out. Just breathing, guys.

WWE’s landscape shifted when Rhodes returned at WrestleMania 38 after a six-year hiatus. He surprised fans as Seth Rollins‘ mystery opponent and delivered a standout match at the Showcase of the Immortals. Since then, he has secured numerous victories and championship titles, cementing his legacy as one of the greats.

Rhodes has defeated some of his toughest opponents, including Rollins, Brock Lesnar, and AJ Styles. In 2023, the 39-year-old won his first Royal Rumble, earning a shot at the main event of WrestleMania 39 against Reigns. Although he lost, the setback only fueled his determination to become the best version of himself.

The American Nightmare became the fourth wrestler to win back-to-back Royal Rumble matches. At WrestleMania 40, he once again challenged The OTC for the world title and emerged victorious in what many consider one of the greatest matches in WrestleMania history. Now, three years later, he is set to main event his fourth consecutive WrestleMania, this time defending the WWE World Championship against Cena.
