UFC/MMA’s audacious loudmouth and ‘Bad Guy’ Chael Sonnen has had the hard job: say what no one will and say it first. Since 2024, he has had some five or so segments on the topic of Conor McGregor returning. Recently, Sonnen also did back-to-back segments about what it means if ‘The Notorious’ were to return too little too late after his 2021 TKO leg break. Now, he piles on even more.

Some consider that the ex-UFC two-division champ is fading away. McGregor hasn’t fought in years, and his training snippets these last four years remains mild encouragement. From a straighter standpoint, Chael Sonnen billed he won’t have the ability to go five rounds in a combat return, despite teasing his big prowess and value. Now, Sonnen doubled down on recent fan comments about nose-blows.

Let me kill an UGLY RUMOR. Conor is NOT on Cocaine. Cocaine users don’t act that crazy, stupid, or irresponsible and Every once in awhile, THEY FIGHT.

A window opened up to more questions about ‘The Notorious’ and his fighting future, with him teasing contradictory dip into Irish Politics. McGregor was slated for a UFC 303 PPV kickoff presser at Dublin’s 3Arena last June. However, he blew out his pinky toe and is yet to find a UFC fight booking. Michael Chandler was the it-guy for his return back then.

Even Chandler moved on and will soon have his second ballot appearance since then. He fights at UFC 314 PPV, live from Kaseya Center in Miami, April 12th. So all in all, Chael Sonnen doesn’t see a good point or avenue in Conor McGregor returning. It is something he credits to more than just mere nose-blows. As such, he douses out a dose of hard truth; it’s either that or he was yet again subject to a hack.

UFC star Conor McGregor turned down a prize fight on Alcatraz to focus on saving Ireland

As 2025 rolled on with no news of return, so did Conor McGregor. It seemed like the Irishman would keep amping on a tease of a fighting return to drive other businesses. A Dublin court levied him €248,000 in damages plus legal waivers for the proven assault of one Nikita Hand in 2018. Major Irish brands have dropped him, with McGregor scouting new ones.

He’d also drive up the bargain of free agency in the midst of his UFC return not happening. As an equity co-owner of BKFC, he’d also bring a bare-knuckle participation into the equation. All seemed to be business-ended until Conor McGregor visited the POTUS. He then released his actual greater calling: saving Ireland from immigration.

Conor McGregor’s piece on how Irish politics would affect his combat/UFC return seemed like a swan song, minus the nostalgia. However, he later did a U-Turn and even said he had a fight booking for the all-famous Alcatraz prison:

We’ll see — We’ll see, greatness does not rush, …There was an opportunity, or should we say a deal, to fight on Alcatraz recently in June. And they came to me, and it wasn’t my worth…As a fighter we have to know our worth. I hold every pay-per-view record in the book. I hold every gate record in the book. And my comeback would be slated as the greatest or the biggest, most anticipated comeback of all time. So it has to be right. And right now, Ireland is in my heart and that’s where I’m at.

Conor McGregor said during BKFC presser

There were rumors that Saudi GEA boxing chief and power broker Turki Alalshikh was planning a June card in Alcatraz (feat. KSI). There were also rumors that McGregor was in line and fielding boxing offers for it. Now, two plus two just placed itself in the best arithmetic figure possible. While McGregor isn’t boxing in the fall, he said never say never.
