‘Marty Fake Newsman and Jorge Masvidal are terrified of me’ – Colby Covington reveals Kamaru Usman and Jorge Masvidal rejected his ‘backup fighter’ offer

Colby Covington, Jorge Masvidal and Kamaru Usman
Colby Covington will be watching intently as Kamaru Usman and Jorge Masvidal face-off in a rematch in the main event of UFC 261. Usman will be looking forward to defending his welterweight title and continue his impressive win streak in the UFC. Masvidal on the other hand, holds the BMF belt and will be looking to add another.
Speaking in an interview with the Schmo, Covington claimed that both Usman and Masvidal had rejected his offer to be the backup fighter for their match. He went on to say that it was because they were terrified of him; terrified of fighting him even if it was on a 24hr notice. He also went on to reveal that he was in shape and ready to fight when called upon any time.
‘They did ask me to weigh in‘ – Colby Covington
Covington was quoted as saying, “They did ask me to weigh in. But, Marty Fake Newsman and Jorge Masvidal are terrified of me. So they want nothing to do with me. They said, ‘No, we won’t fight him, even if it’s on 24 hours notice, we don’t want to fight him – it’s a style-matchup change’.”
Dana White recently concluded that Covington will certainly be fighting the winner of the rematch between Usman and Masvidal. Covington also revealed that he would be out to prove that he is the best welterweight in the division, and that Usman and Masvidal might even retire after this fight, fearing him.
Covington hasn’t fought since the Tyron Woodley fight, which he won via. TKO in September 2020. The number 1 ranked welterweight contender will be raring to get back to the octagon, once UFC 261 concludes.
