After shocking racial as well as cultural statements made by Colby Covington on Kamaru Usman and Tyron Woodley at the post-match interview at UFC Vegas 11. Covington had issued a response in the wake of criticism that was put on his way by a lot of UFC fighters. Criticism of Covington has long existed, but was amplified following comments made before and after his fight at UFC Vegas 11. During fight week, Covington called Tyron Woodley and the Black Lives Matter movement a “terrorist” organization.

Covington even went after Kamaru Usman after that. Taking a shot at Usman’s Nigerian ethnicity. Covington said that instead of getting a call from the president, Usman probably gets smoke signals from his tribe.

The comments caught the attention of various fighters in the MMA community online and were criticized heavily by UFC 253 fighters Israel Adesanya, Leon Edwards and Sijara Eubanks.

Covington took his Instagram to make a brief statement. And respond to all of those fighters or personnel who criticised him for his statements.

Covington is hoping to face Usman Kamaru in a rematch from their classic battle at UFC 245 that saw the current champion earn a fifth-round finish, or former roommate and training partner Jorge Masvidal. Usman is tentatively scheduled to defend his title against Gilbert Burns at UFC 256. But nothing can be said for sure at this moment. While a rematch with Nate Diaz is being discussed for Masvidal.
