Nobody crosses the line more often than Colby Covington, whose trash talk frequently targets entire cultures with disrespect. Covington’s brash persona thrives on controversy, pushing boundaries and intentionally provoking outrage to remain a constant presence in UFC. His latest comments about Brazil reignite memories of his infamous rant, where he mocked the nation and its people without remorse.

Covington has long embraced politics, often aligning with Donald Trump and appearing at several of the former president’s campaign rallies. During a recent interview, he was questioned about future ambitions in politics and possibly running for office after retiring from fighting. When asked which country he’d target with tariffs, Covington responded confidently, reigniting an old beef.

If that’s what the people want and that’s what the country wants, I would love to serve the people. I think that would be my greatest honor. Probably Brazil, those filthy animals out there. Don’t let them in.

Covington’s hatred for Brazil isn’t new and has been around for some time, and was the beginning of his heel era. It started after his controversial post-fight rant in São Paulo back in 2017, following his win over submission specialist Demian Maia. The ‘Chaos’ called Brazil a “dump” and its fans “filthy animals,” enraging the nation, sparking even death threats for the American fighter.

Before the Brazil incident, Covington was a talented but underappreciated fighter, who struggled to get attention or momentum in the UFC. His insulting remarks turned him into a polarizing figure, generating headlines, hatred, and a considerable increase in popularity overnight.  Ironically, he was almost kicked from the UFC until his persona transformation converted him into a controversial marketing figure.

Since that explosive moment in Brazil, Covington has fully embraced the heel persona, using it relentlessly against every opponent. In fights against Jorge Masvidal and Leon Edwards, he crossed personal lines, targeting their families with ruthless, disrespectful comments. Covington has succeeded in this villainous role and shows no intention of abandoning his extreme approach soon.

Colby Covington roasts UFC 315 main event fighters

Colby Covington has challenged for UFC welterweight gold three times, falling short twice to Kamaru Usman and once to Leon Edwards. Now riding a two-fight losing streak, Covington’s momentum has stalled significantly, putting his once-promising title dreams in serious jeopardy. His last loss to Joaquin Buckley at UFC Tampa was devastating, sparking intense speculation about potential retirement from the sport.

Despite recent setbacks, Covington continues entertaining fans through Twitch streams and relentless trash talk aimed at fighters across the division. Recently, he mocked the UFC 315 welterweight title headliners, calling Belal Muhammad and Jack Della Maddalena boring and undeserving contenders. He also managed to mock other top fighters in the brutal rant.

Boring, racist. He said that I was getting title shots cause the colour of my skin. He’s just a piece of sh** person. He’s despicable. There’s more charisma on that trash can over there. I haven’t watched much of Jack but I think he’s one-dimensional. He’s a puncher and I think he can be exposed.

Colby Covington continued.

Covington and Muhammad have traded barbs for years, with tensions escalating as both pursued the welterweight title spotlight. Recently, Covington bizarrely hid Muhammad’s food at UFC PI, fueling rumors of mind games. However, the champ isn’t fazed by this stunt, labelling Covington a YouTuber and streamer.

Covington is currently 37 years old and could be retiring at any point in time. However, many don’t think he has what it takes to make a comeback against young opponents. Nevertheless, it would be interesting to see what the promotion thinks would be best for the veteran fighter.
