2016 was the last time Colin Kaepernick played a game in the NFL. Eight years later, he wants to make a sensational comeback and help a team win a Super Bowl.

Kaepernick, who will be 37 in the middle of the 2024 season, was in Paris recently cheering on the USA men’s team in the gold medal match against France. When he met with the reporters, they asked about his plans in football. To their surprise, he still hopes to play for an NFL team.

We're still training, still pushing. So hopefully. We've just got to get one of these team owners to open up.
Colin Kaepernick told Sky Sports

Kaepernick, a second-round draft pick for the San Francisco 49ers, played six years in the Bay Area. He led the team to consecutive NFC title games and a Super Bowl appearance in 2014. However, from there on, it was all downhill.

In August 2016, Kaepernick kneeled down while the national anthem played before a game in protest of hate crimes against African Americans and racial disparity. The act received severe criticism because many viewed kneeling down as disrespectful toward the national flag.

The 49ers released Kaepernick a year later, and since then, no team owner wants to hire him. However, the South Dakota alumni remain confident that if a team gives him a chance to be their quarterback, he will bring the championship home.

It's something I've trained my whole life for, so to be able to step back on the field, I think that would be a major moment, a major accomplishment for me. I think I could bring a lot to a team and help them win a championship.
Colin Kaepernick said

It’s highly doubtful that any team would want to risk signing him. Even if he trained hard outside of the gridiron, there’s always a massive difference between someone who goes through training on it. His announcement only received more trolling from football fans.

Kaepernick filed a lawsuit in 2017 accusing the franchise owners of blacklisting him for his actions. The court advised both parties to settle the matter between themselves, and Kaepernick reportedly received compensation, which to this day remains confidential.

He tried several times to get back into the game. Last season he messaged Jets owner Woody Johnson for a trial after veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilles. Before that, when 49ers rookie quarterback Brock Purdy hurt his shoulder, Kaepernick reached out to the 49ers to give him a short contract for the playoffs. None of them answered his call.
