People were eagerly waiting for Colin Kaepernick’s response following Harrison Butker’s controversial statement earlier this month. The former NFL quarterback finally opened up and decided to put the NFL on a pedestal.
Kaepernick, who remains absent from the NFL, believes that the league would not take any action against Butker’s sexist comments at a Benedictine College. Instead of shunning the Kansas City Chiefs placekicker, the NFL opted to give him the benefit of the doubt.
The 36-year-old shook his head at the realization that Butker wouldn’t be punished.
That's why I'm not still in that organization and I still don't care who performs at their halftime show.Colin Kaepernick said per Marca
Harrison Butker divided the country that stood by him and the others who despised him for his view of Catholicism. The NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell spoke about the Super Bowl winner’s words, which did not sit well with most.
We have more than 3,000 players. They all have a great diversity of opinions, just like the United States. That is something we treasure.Roger Goodell said
Kaepernick was quick to deduce the league committee had no qualms with Butker.
What happened to Colin Kaepernick?
Despite the social media outrage, Butker remains steadfast. However, Colin Kaepernick wasn’t so lucky. After taking a knee before a game in 2016, while the United States national anthem was sung in protest against racism in the country, he attracted then-president Donald Trump’s attention.

A year later, the 49ers released him. He went for trials with several teams, including the Seattle Seahawks and the Baltimore Ravens. However, neither of the sides gave him a contract.
Then Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll revealed that Kaepernick was a starter in the NFL and teams want a starting quarterback. Yet he still failed to find a new team. He complained that the franchise owners were deliberately sabotaging his image for taking a stand against color-based brutality.
Two-time Super Bowl winner Ray Lewis later revealed that the Ravens discussed adding Kaepernick as Joe Flacco’s backup. Lewis added that Colin’s girlfriend called the Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti a slave master and Lewis his slave. They backed off facing backlash from fans.

We believe everyone should stand up for the National Anthem. We want to honor our flag [and our country] and our fans expect that from us... The controversy over the Anthem is a barrier to having honest conversations and making real progress.Commissioner Goodell in his 2017 statement
Kaepernick has remained a free agent ever since, but his drive to play in the NFL never went out. Last year when the New York Jets were in trouble after Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilles, he contacted the Jets front office for a chance.
