Charlie Kirk, a conservative speaker and a close ally of the business tycoon Donald Trump, was murdered yesterday while attending an event at the Utah Valley University. The 31-year-old was shot in the neck and succumbed to his injuries despite immediate attention.

The death of the controversial political figure had social media in splits. While many condoned the heavily alleged political violence, a few weren’t as sympathetic towards the news. Among the few was a Carolina Panthers communications coordinator, identified as Charlie Rock, who shared an Instagram story that was deemed “insensitive.”

A social media handle tweeted three screenshots from Rock’s Instagram profile, and a story displaying the Wu-Tang Clan logo with their song “Protect Ya Neck.” Another story from the coordinator included a photo of Kirk from an earlier event with the caption, “Why are y’all sad? Your man said it was worth it” Charlie Rock has since removed the story and made his handle private.

In a statement, the Panthers condoned Rock’s actions and admitted they had taken the necessary actions. The Charlotte Observer’s Scott Fowler reported that the Panthers fired Rock.

The views expressed by our employees are their own and do not represent those of the Carolina Panthers. We do not condone violence of any kind. We are taking this matter very seriously and have accordingly addressed it with the individual.

Hasan Piker, a left wing influencer, who was supposed to debate Kirk on Sept. 25 at Dartmouth College, has asked the public not to post jokes about Kirk. According to The New York Times, he first addressed the shooting during a Twitch livestream, voicing worry that he might be a potential target as well.

This is a terrifying incident. The reverberation of people seeking out vengeance in the aftermath of this violent, abhorrent incident is going to be genuinely worrisome.

The Utah Valley University wasn’t the only unfortunate incident yesterday. In Denver, around lunchtime, a shooter armed with a handgun fired shots inside and outside Evergreen High School, located 30 miles southwest of Denver. The shooter injured two teenagers and also sustained some self-inflicted injuries. The authorities later reported that the shooter died.

In a social media statement, Colorado Governor Jared Polis said he and the community were “devastated” by the attack and were keeping the victims in their thoughts. A day after the Utah incident, another shooter had opened fire that leaving one teenager dead and five others injured in two different locations in Tampa.

The incident in Colorado, Tampa, and Utah occurred only two weeks after the inhumane act in Minneapolis. Two children were killed and 17 others wounded when a gunman opened fire during a morning Mass at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis on Wednesday. The shooting took place shortly before 8:30 a.m. during a service marking the start of the school year.
