Even though the Indianapolis Colts have witnessed a collapse of Andrew Luck’s promising career due to injuries, they don’t want that to be a concerning thing for quarterback Anthony Richardson, who seems to be following a similar pattern.

There’s no doubt that Richardson has potential however, he couldn’t get a chance to build his name like others after sustaining a right shoulder injury in his rookie year.

While speaking to the media for the first time this year, the franchise owner Jim Irsay admitted Richardson should embrace the opportunity he got to prove himself as the franchise quarterback rather than worrying about getting injured.

That tackle that happened, it could happen at any time. It’s a physical game. He has to seize the opportunity to use his feet when he can and protect himself as well. He knows that. At the same time, we drafted him because we know with his feet, he can be dangerous and pick up critical yards at critical times
Jim Irsay said at the Colts’ training camp via the Indianapolis Star

Irsay also complimented the quarterback by calling his playing style “great” and expressing his excitement to see him show his dual-threat capabilities in the coming season.

Colts unwilling to limit Anthony Richardson’s running game

While speaking to the media, Irsay also said even though Richardson couldn’t play because of his injury last season, the team has confidence in him for the coming season and is also excited to have him back. As much as the team wants him to stay healthy, they are not ready to make him run the ball less than before as head coach Shane Steichen claimed.

People ask this, too, a lot, it’s just like: ‘Hey, are you going to limit the run game? I kind of think, like, shoot, are you going to limit Steph Curry from shooting 3-pointers? Well, that’s one of Anthony’s strengths, right? So we’re not going to get away from that. That’s what he does well
Shane Steichen said

Even though Richardson’s rookie season ended early, the Colts knew he had potential and that’s the reason why they drafted him in the first place. They were impressed by his dual-threat ability, excelling both as a runner and a passer.
