UFC Beneil Dariush is now finally closer to his dream of becoming a UFC champion, but the dream is yet to be sealed in reality. Dariush, who’s on a 7-fight winning streak in the lightweight division, will be fighting Islam Makhachev, a protege of former UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomoedov, who’s on a 9-fight winning streak. This fight will take place in February and is most likely to grant the winner a title shot after the champion Charles Oliveira’s next title defence.

Dariush last fought in May 2021 when he had the biggest win of his career over former interim UFC lightweight champion Tony Ferguson. Now, Dariush is 21-4 (1 draw) in his overall MMA career and plans to extend his winning streak when he faces Makhachev, who plans to do the same as well. Someone’s streak is about to get broken and the fans cannot wait to see who’s the better of the two grappling heavy mixed martial artists.

Dariush came to UFC 270 post-event press conference to attend some questions for his upcoming fight with Makhachev. Dariush was asked if he is fighting for a title fight next after and if he wins his fight against Makhachev. To this, he said “I would assume so but you know but with Conor [McGregor] always around the corner… I don’t know there’s always something around the corner, I would assume so this is a title eliminator. I assume I am going to fight for the title if I win this fight.”

UFC Megastar Conor McGregor, who was last seen at UFC 264 when he lost his trilogy against Dustin Poirier, is now believed to be close to the end of his recovery stage which was needed due to a shin fracture that occurred in his last fight, and therefore might start his full-scale MMA training anytime soon, and many believe that McGregor will be allowed to skip the line of rankings to immediately get a title shot against the current champion Oliveira. Even Oliveira himself has expressed extreme interest in fighting McGregor.
