Rivalries in boxing are a common sight to behold, but some are more special and thrilling than others. The bad blood between Canelo Alvarez and Oscar De La Hoya has reached a boiling point. This was at the pre-fight press conference for Canelo’s upcoming bout. The promoter and Mexican superstar traded insults and nearly came to blows. Conor McGregor offered an intriguing solution – settle it in a bare-knuckle fight.
Conor McGregor has thrown his name into the mix as a potential promoter for a bare-knuckle grudge match between Canelo Alvarez and De La Hoya. The former UFC champ recently acquired an ownership stake in the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship. As such, he’s clearly interested in making this happen.

Alvarez and De La Hoya have been at each other’s throats for years. Their bitter rivalry reignited publicly in a heated presser full of f-bombs and personal accusations. With tensions sky-high, Conor McGregor clearly sensed an opportune time to interject himself into the narrative.
This fight is almost certainly not happening. However, McGregor is just doing his job as a bare-knuckle promoter trying to put people in seats. For now, De La Hoya will hope Jaime Munguia will emerge as the victor against Canelo this weekend. If not, he will likely come under fire from the legendary Mexican boxers and fans.
Canelo Alvarez rips into Oscar De La Hoya at the press conference
The bad blood between Canelo Alvarez and Oscar De La Hoya bubbled over in an explosive press conference this week. The duo nearly came to blows, but security separated them. Alvarez unloaded a profanity-laced tirade labeling De La Hoya a thief.

Things rapidly escalated when De La Hoya took verbal shots at Canelo during the press conference. The typically cool and composed Alvarez briefly lost his chill, rising from his seat and moving menacingly towards his former promoter before they were separated. This is what he said after being separated:
He's a f****ng a*****e. He steals from fighters. That's what he do… F****ng p***y. Mother f***er.Canelo Alvarez at the Press Conference
The heated incident went down ahead of Canelo’s May 4th title defense against Jaime Munguia. Munguia is promoted by De La Hoya’s Golden Boy firm. Tensions had been simmering between the two boxing icons over Alvarez’s messy 2020 split from Golden Boy. Whether this incident makes the Mexican star more beloved than his ex-promoter remains to be seen. However, the unexpected fireworks have definitely recaptured everyone’s attention ahead of Canelo’s next title defense.
