Conor McGregor remains the biggest superstar in MMA, known for his charisma, knockout power, and historic championship wins. Despite being inactive for three years, he constantly finds ways to stay relevant outside of the fighting world. Recently, he launched his own cryptocurrency venture, but it quickly turned into a massive failure, disappointing many fans and investors alike.
McGregor’s meme coin “Real” shook things up with a launch strategy aimed at avoiding the pitfalls that have plagued many crypto projects. Fed up with bots and snipers hijacking early token offerings, McGregor opted for a sealed auction format, championing a bold motto: “Transparency or Nothing.” In true McGregor fashion, he announced the coin on his X.
I changed the FIGHT game. I changed the WHISKEY game. I changed the STOUT game. Now it’s time to change the CRYPTO game. This is just the beginning. This is $REAL @getrealtoken.

The project was developed in partnership with the Real World Gaming DAO (RWG), and officially ran from April 5 to 6. RWG, formerly known as Balthazar DAO, has serious credentials — backed by some of the biggest names in the crypto space. Their support added credibility and weight to the project’s long-term vision.

According to reports, 32% of the total supply is allocated to the RWG treasury. It was to allow the DAO to fund innovation, community-driven proposals, and ecosystem growth. On top of that, 17% is earmarked for community distribution, ensuring real users benefit directly from the launch. However, despite looking great on paper, the coin didn’t deliver on the hype.
The fall of Conor McGregor’s crypto journey
Despite Conor McGregor’s massive following and branding power, the meme coin’s actual performance didn’t match the build-up. The auction raised just $218,000, falling well below its $1 million minimum goal. It was far from the $3.6 million target the team had envisioned. A brief 12-hour unlock period after the auction drew heavy criticism, with many pointing out it could fuel immediate sell-offs.

Additionally, concerns about the unauthorized use of third-party logos in marketing materials raised red flags and further hurt investor confidence. These missteps created backlash that even McGregor’s star power couldn’t overcome. Though the project had an ambitious start and big-name backing, its disappointing launch may serve as a cautionary tale.
Did Conor McGregor pre-plan an early retirement?
Conor McGregor’s prolonged absence from the octagon has left fans eagerly awaiting one final, electrifying return to UFC action. Despite UFC’s efforts to book his comeback, several setbacks and complications have prevented the highly anticipated fight from materializing. Meanwhile, McGregor continues dominating headlines through his business ventures and public appearances, proving his unmatched star power beyond the cage.

The fighter still has two fights with the UFC in his contract, but his recent comments suggested otherwise. There have been various rumors about ‘The Notorious’ potentially not coming back at all. Amidst all this, an old interview of McGregor has gone viral, where he talked about his early retirement.
I would never stay in there, longer than I should. I’m smarter than I look. It’s a dangerous business. Get in, get rich and get out. I’m in the business of securing my own future, my family’s future and that’s it. The fight game doesn’t last long. Competitive fighting doesn’t last long.
