Conor McGregor ‘in’ for Diego Sanchez’s farewell fight
Diego Sanchez and Conor McGregor

Former UFC star Conor McGregor has posted a series of screenshots to social media via his Twitter handle. Wherein he claims, text exchanges he had with Dana White prior to the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak. In the tweets, McGregor responded to recent comments made by veteran Diego Sanchez, who competes at UFC 253. And the former took his pre-match conference to express his desire to fight ‘The Notorious One’ in his farewell fight.

McGregor has not competed since January 2020 after defeating the Cowboy at UFC 246 by 1st-round TKO in less than 40 seconds. The fight was McGregor’s first since an October 2018 loss to UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov

Conor McGregor vs Diego Sanchez if it happens, will most likely be a pay-per-view fight. As nothing less could be expected if in case McGregor in involved. However, as the screenshots progressed further Conor could be seen asking about Sanchez to Dana White.

McGregor announced his retirement on June 7 from fighting in a tweet following the conclusion of the UFC 250 pay-per-view. Giving the reason as lack of fighters made him loose interest.

Build-up to this potential matchup between Conor McGregor vs Diego Sanchez

Ahead of his fight against Jake Matthews at UFC 253, Sanchez was evidently seen calling out Conor McGregor for his final fight. With the hopes of filling up his bank before retirement. Sanchez has four fights on his UFC contract. He’d like to finish out that contract strong, as he expects it to be his final deal with the UFC. Referring to fighting against legends, Sanchez also mentioned Nick Diaz. But for him the final fight is much bigger.

To be precise Sanchez said, “I envision myself dominating these next three fights and finishing my career with a fight with Conor McGregor. That’s my dream. That’s my vision. As I build my legacy and his does what his does, I’ll be waiting if he wants to do it at the end of the road.”

Having said all that, at 38 and with a 5-5 record in his past 10 fights. It is clear Sanchez is no longer in his prime. McGregor would likely be a steep favourite in a hypothetical contest. Also, a lot of MMA fans online have been unenthused over stories and social media posts about the pairing.
