Conor McGregor is one of the UFC’s most popular and polarizing figures. The hype around his comeback remains so enormous that it has already broken some records. But UFC CEO Dana White went and made an earth-shattering comparison, upping the ante of the hype even more.
Dana White recently sat down with comedian Andrew Schulz. This was after footage surfaced of McGregor’s latest drunken nightclub antics. Instead of scolding his biggest star, the UFC boss equated McGregor’s elite mind games to none other than Muhammad Ali.
I don’t give a fu*k what anybody says. [But to me] Ali and Conor [are on the same] level. They are the two best of all times when it comes to mental warfare.Dana White via Flagrant Podcast YT
‘Notorious’ has produced more than his fair share of mind-bending moments over the years. From boldly predicting outcomes to innovative insults to staredown shenanigans, Conor McGregor knows how to get inside his opponents’ heads. His brash personality made him an instant face of the UFC.
McGregor will return to active competition on June 29 against Michael Chandler. However, the status of this fight is still in danger after the recent series of events. If the bout takes place, fight fans can rest assured that McGregor will bring his A-game in the trash talk and mental warfare against Chandler.
Conor McGregor’s intense trash talk against Jose Aldo
When it comes to trash talk, few can match Conor McGregor’s prowess. The ‘Notorious’ has made a career of riling up opponents with his brash persona and witty insults. But his onslaught aimed at Jose Aldo might be his magnum opus. This was back in 2015, before their title fight.
McGregor was set to face the then-UFC featherweight king Aldo. He unleashed a fury of mind games and insults towards Aldo and the Brazilian population in general. This was probably the time McGregor gained his fame and notoriety. One statement cemented him as one of the greatest trash talkers ever.
If this was a different time, I would invade his favela on horseback and kill anyone that was not fit to work.Conor McGregor in the lead up to UFC 194
McGregor went on to win the fight via a first-round knockout in just 13 seconds. Aldo was so psyched up by McGregor’s mind games that he rushed him and got countered beautifully, putting him to sleep. This marked the start of the McGregor era, which is still going on. McGregor also went on to win the lightweight belt, beating Eddie Alvarez in a year’s time.
