Conor McGregor sends a heartfelt message to Khabib after his shock retirement, post-win at UFC 254
Khabib “The Eagle” Nurmagomedov vs Justin “the Highlight” Gaethje is finally over. Khabib beat Justin Gaethje with so much ease via submission (triangle choke) in only the second round of the fight. However, there was more news as Khabib announced a shock retirement from the UFC at the post-fight interview. The Dagestani fighter was in uncontrollable tears after his victory and said that he couldn’t take it anymore, in the absence of his late father.
His retirement resulted in a plethora of tweets from a truckload of fans, celebrities and fighters all around the world. But, the tweet that stood out was Khabib’s greatest ever rival’s tweet. YES! It was Conor, who posted a tweet in double quick time, once Khabib announced his retirement.
“Respect and condolences on your father again also” – Conor McGregor via twitter
Without second thoughts Conor congratulated Khabib saying, “Good performance @TeamKhabib. I will carry on. Respect and condolences on your father again also. To you and family. Yours sincerely, The McGregors.” The post-fight interview of Khabib was so chilling that it would even melt a stone-hearted man.
Khabib in his value laden interview said, “Today I want to say it was my last fight. No way I’m gonna come here without my father. It was first time after what happened with my father. When UFC called me with Justin, I talked with my mother three days. She don’t (want me) to go fight without father, but I promised her it’s gonna be my last fight. And if I give my word, I have to follow this.”
That caps off an incredible career for arguably the greatest Lightweight of all time. He started his journey with a triangle choke and ends it with the same! The world salutes you KHABIB!
