The Los Angeles Rams’ season ended this week following a playoff loss endured under snowy conditions in Philadelphia on Sunday. As they transition into the offseason, the uncertainty that clouded wide receiver Cooper Kupp earlier in the season appears to have resurfaced, leaving him to ponder what his future holds.

Even though Kupp still has two years left on his contract with the franchise, the speculations about his future intensified with the trade rumors circulated around the trade deadline in the regular season. As he addressed the media in the concluding locker room interaction of this season, he opened up about his uncertain future in Los Angeles.

While the 31-year-old remains committed to continuing his NFL career, he acknowledged the complexities surrounding his contract and potential trade rumors. Kupp understands that the nature of NFL contracts and franchise decisions are out of his control so, he is primarily focused on looking forward to playing.

I feel like I’ve got a lot of good football left in me. I’ll be playing football next year. That much I know. Who knows what’s going to happen? That’s out of my control. And we will see what it’s going to be… Obviously would love to be in L.A., but I don’t know what that’s going to look like.

Cooper Kupp told the reporters

If the Rams decide to release the All-Pro receiver in the offseason, they would save $15 million along with $7.52 million against the salary cap. However, if they wait and cut him post the designation of June 1, they would incur $22.2 million in dead money as a result of the remaining prorated amount of his signing bonus and the roster bonus of $5 million.

Cooper Kupp reflects on his struggle of recent years

Since entering the league in 2017, Kupp has remained loyal to just one team: the Rams. His contributions to their success, including winning the Super Bowl LVI, have been substantial, highlighted by his historic season of 2021 when he earned the Super Bowl MVP honor. However, performance has declined significantly due to persistent injuries. Even when he plays well, his production has not returned to its previous levels.

For me personally, feeling like ‘man, there’s things I’m watching [on] film and feeling good about the football I’m playing,’ but production-wise it’s not showing up. A lot of stuff is outside of my control and it is frustrating.

Cooper Kupp said

Though the Rams advanced to the divisional round in playoffs, their offensive struggles have been evident through the stretch of the  2024 campaign. As they look to rejuvenate, Kupp aims to stay healthy next season, boosting both his performance and potential trade value.
