Could a loss against Irene Aldana spell the doom for Holly Holm?
Holly Holm, ‘The Preacher’s Daughter‘ has had an illustrious career in the UFC. She is well known for stopping an ‘out of the world’ Ronda Rousey who was on top of her game, at UFC 193. But, ever since that Holly has found it difficult against her opponents and she has struggled especially in title bouts. On Saturday, October 3 she will fight the Mexican, Irene Aldana at UFC Fight Night.
The match will definitely prove to be a make-or-break one for Holly Holm’s UFC career. A win on Sunday will put the victor very close to a title bout with Amanda Nunes. So, all eyes will be on the 38-year-old veteran Holly. The highly experienced Holly hailing from Albuquerque, New Mexico has a record of 13-5 in the UFC.
She also boasts an impressive professional boxing and kickboxing record. She has fought a plethora of top UFC fighters as well. But, the point to be noted is that she began struggling of late against top fighters like Amanda Nunes, Cris Cyborg, Valentina Shevchenko.
Can Holly see off Aldana?
Irene Aldana belongs to a new breed of fighters. She is immensely powerful and is known for striking power, which was very evident in her recent brutal KO victory over Ketlen Vieira. It will be really interesting to see how Holly goes about in the fight. Holly is known for her counter ability and even in situations where she was down and out, she’s come back like an engine with infinite gas in the tank.
If Holly suffers a loss, various factors like her age, ability to play to her countering strengths will be subject to introspection. A brutal KO loss can definitely signal curtains on Holly’s illustrious career. We will have to wait and watch, to see how things pan out.
