Shortly after the recent signing of Ezekiel Elliott, there had been social media rumors about the Dallas Cowboys’ interest in trading for Pittsburgh Steelers running back Najee Harris. It even reached Pittsburgh radio, as the host mentioned it live, though he added the information can be said credible.
With the rising rumors and speculation about the Cowboys’ next big move, Cowboys beat writers contacted their reliable sources at the team to confirm the rumors. It turns out, the franchise has no interest in pursuing Harris, reflecting their faith in RB Elliott– as reported by NFL Network’s Jane Slater.
“On these Najee Harris and Cowboys reporters, team source tells me ‘click bait,” wrote Slater after confirming with a source in the Dallas organization that there is no Harris-Cowboys trade in motion.
Given, that Harris is entering the final year of his rookie contract, the Steelers have decided not to pick the fifth-year option, making the running back available for a trade or in free agency following the 2024 season. It does come surprise to many, as Harris is coming off a strong season as he played all 17 games and exceeded the 1,000-yard mark in each of his first three seasons.
And with such a scenario, the Cowboys do not wish to compromise future draft picks for the trade of a player in his final year of contract, as it neither fits in their short-term or long-term plans.
Will Ezekiel Elliott prove critics wrong?
When the Cowboys signed Elliott after just one year of separation which he spent at the New England Patriots, they received quite a mixed reaction from the fans and an almost rejection from the analysts. As they pointed out, Zeke is hardly improving with each passing NFL year, instead, his production is degrading.
The Cowboys fanatic and ESPN analyst Skip Bayless even had a few words to say on this.
Would you believe that Zeke Elliott, in his eight NFL seasons has gone down in yards per game every single season? That's hard to do, but he's done it.Skip Bayless said
Well, of course, the running back has signed a one-year deal with the Cowboys at minimum investment, it appears his performance would be under scrutiny every time he would step on the football field.
