The Carolina Panthers decided to bench Bryce Young for veteran Andy Dalton after a poor start to the 2024-25 NFL regular season. The decision to bench Young has been questioned by NFL athletes and other sports personalities as well.
Dave Canales went back on his words just 24 hours later, to come up with such a decision. Young, drafted No. 1 in 2023, although bumped out about the situation, took the high road. He mentioned his disappointment but noted that the organization and the coach have to make decisions best for the team and he respected that.
Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys quarterback, is the latest to come out in support of Bryce Young. Prescott believed that the Panthers have been unfair to a young talent that they could have developed better. Prescott took a dig at the management and the roster as well in his statements.
That’s a young player, and when I say this is the ultimate team game, we’re sometimes as good as the guys that are blocking for us and making catches as well – and, to be frank, calling the plays.Dak Prescott said on Thursday (H/T: dallascowboys.com)
Prescott felt that it was not a “one-man problem”, although he admitted having not watched the last game. The 31-year-old Prescott also had some advice for the young quarterback.
For him, it’s about understanding that. Control what you can control. Continue to prepare, continue to study hard and keep your head up.Dak Prescott added
Earlier, another Dallas Cowboys player, Micah Parsons, came in support of the player after the benching. Parsons noted that young quarterbacks like Young and even Caleb Williams should be given time to develop and become better.
Dak Prescott thinks talents don’t go away overnight
Dak Prescott noted that Young is writing his own story, and he has control of it. He said that Young is a talented player who had to go through a process to reach where he is today.
I mean, I have seen tons of players, right, switch systems, switch coaches, whatever it may be and really start to shine.Dak Prescott noted in his speech
It is right, in fact, sometimes players do tend to become better at changing up situations. For instance, Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold have become better after moving to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Minnesota Vikings, respectively.
Mayfield and Darnold, drafted first and third in the same draft (2018), ended up in Panthers. They combined for 22 TDs and 19 interceptions while playing for the Panthers. Since leaving the Carolina based team, they have aggregated more than double touchdowns while recording fewer interceptions. Both Buccaneers and Vikings are also 2-0 up currently.
Sometimes, a footballer’s entire career is based on where they drafted. It was sure Panthers would have gone for CJ Stroud, who ended up drafted by Houston Texans and he’s better for it.
