Alex Pereira is currently one of the most active champions on the UFC roster. Since his light heavyweight debut, the champion has fought and won four times in one year. With only a few weeks since his last fight at UFC 303, the Brazilian is eager to get back to action, potentially at UFC 305.
Alex Pereira‘s coach Plinio Cruz recently did an interview on the MMA Hour Show where he talked about Pereira’s urge to fight at UFC 305. The card will take place in Perth, headlined by Pereira’s arch nemesis Israel Adesanya and Dricus Du Plessis. Cruz revealed that he had to convince the Brazilian to slow down and take a break before jumping back in the octagon.
This guy’s crazy. Maybe that’s why he trained. He said ‘Listen, this is my second sparring for my camp for Perth, I want to fight on that card.’ I said ‘No, no, no. Pump the brakes a little bit.’ He’s crazy, broPlinio Cruz via The MMA Hour Show
Alex Pereira, Dana White‘s ‘Knight, and Shining Armour‘, has saved multiple UFC events by taking fights on short notice. At UFC 303, he replaced the ‘Notorious’ Conor McGregor and successfully defended his title against Jiri Prochazka. The fight ended in the second round, with ‘Poatan’ receiving minimal damage. This could explain why the fighter is ready for another challenge in such a short amount of time.
Similarly, Pereira has also shown interest in moving up and fighting Jon Jones for the heavyweight title. The fighter recently turned 37 years old and is currently the oldest UFC champion in the mix. With only a few fights in his tank, fans are excited about his next outing. Surprisingly, Pereira has an opportunity that takes him away from the octagon towards the squared circle.
Alex Pereira responds to Anthony Joshua’s boxing invitation
With his incredible performances in the last few years, Alex Pereira has become a global superstar with millions of fans. One of them is none other than heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua, who suggested Pereira try boxing in the future.
Although it caught many off guard, Pereira had a rather positive reaction to AJs comments. The fighter respected the Brits’ opinion and asked him for a potential opponent for his debut.
I’m honored you think so. It’s always been my dream, I’m 37 I cannot make a career in it so who do you recommend I fight?Alex Pereira via X
Before joining the UFC, Alex Pereira had a successful kickboxing career. However, the fighter possesses significant power, which may give him a one-punch advantage over his opponent if he chooses to switch to boxing. Nonetheless, the fighter still faces significant hurdles in the UFC’s light heavyweight class.
