Pakistan have been knocked out of the 2023 Asia Cup by Sri Lanka in one of the greatest Asia Cup matches of all time.

It’s 1:05 am. The match between Pakistan and Sri Lanka reaches the final ball. Debutant Zaman Khan had just conceded a boundary the previous ball after Charith Asalanka had somehow edged it between the keeper and the 3rd man. 

Zaman Khan starts his run up and bowls a slower ball on Asalanka’s pads and he calmly just places it in the gap at deep square leg. That shot meant Sri Lanka have qualified for the 2023 Asia Cup finals, where they will now face India.

Pakistan had set up a target of 253, but due to DLS calculations, the target was reduced by one run. Kusal Perera and Prathum Nissanka started off well, but after a mix up, Kusal Perera got run out. Nissanka and Kusal Mendis built up a 57 run partnership, but Nissanka had given an easy catch to Shadab Khan. 

Mendis along with Sadeera Samarawickrama built up a hundred run stand until Sadeera got stumped. In came the match finisher Charith Asalanka. After a few overs, Sri Lankan batsmen started dropping like dominoes. In the final over, Sri Lanka needed 8 off the last over. Thanks to Asalanka’s heroics, they booked their spot in the Asia Cup Finals.

Indians overjoyed after Pakistan get knocked out

Along with Sri Lankan and Pakistani fans, Indian fans were glued to the TV as the entire Indian subcontinent were watching the nail biting match. As soon as Asalanka hit the winning runs, Indians were quick to mock their arch-rivals for getting knocked out of the competition. 

Plenty of fans were happy to see such a close game happen, but in typical twitter fashion, fans started posting memes to mock the Pakistani cricket team. One said seeing Pakistan fans bought him joy!

India will face Sri Lanka in the 2023 Asia Cup finals on 17th September. Sri Lanka won the last T20I Asia Cup which was held in 2022, while India won the ODI Asia Cup in 2018.The match will be played in the R. Premadasa stadium and the match will begin at 3pm IST if there isn’t any rain delay.
