3 franchises that can sign Chetan Sakariya in the IPL 2022 auction

Chetan Sakariya
Rajasthan Royals (RR) pacer Chetan Sakariya has been one of the surprise performers in the Indian Premier League (IPL) so far. A part of a team comprising of experienced pacers like Andrew Tye and Jaydev Unadkat, Sakariya would not have fancied his chances of making it to the playing XI at the start of the season. But the RR think tank showed faith in him and the fast-bowler has delivered and with some aplomb.
He finished with seven wickets in as many games in the now-suspended tournament at an impressive economy of a fraction over 8. In his debut season, Sakariya has been very impressive and has executed the yorkers and slower balls at the death with some perfection. He has dismissed the likes of MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina and KL Rahul already in the season.
Chetan Sakariya’s 12 wickets in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021 saw him bag an IPL contract. And the youngster didn’t disappoint on the big stage as he went on to outshine his senior teammate Unadkat in the brief stint he had. The 23-year-old garnered praise from one and all including Rajasthan’s Director of Cricket Kumar Sangakkara.
With a mega auction scheduled next season, the Royals are likely to let go of the left-arm quick. But there is only a negligible chance that RR will release Sakariya without using the Right to Match card in the auction given his performance this season. If they do let the young quick go next season by any chance, these are the 3 teams who would want to sign him.
Delhi Capitals

The Delhi Capitals (DC) boast of arguably the best pace battery in the league. They have the express pace and experience in the likes of Chris Woakes, Anrich Nortje and Kagiso Rabada along with Indians like Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav. But one might say that the attack is very one-dimensional given the all the bowlers are right handers with not many variations up their sleeves.
In a bid to add some variation to the line-up, they did rope in Lukman Meriwala, but the left arm quick failed miserably in his IPL debut. Sakariya’s control and variation could just be the missing clog in the DC attack and it wouldn’t be a surprise if they rope in the youngster. Sakariya’s inclusion will also give the Capitals an extra option in the death overs.
Kolkata Knight Riders

The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) too boast of an impressive bowling lineup with some exciting young talents but they too lack variety in their ranks. While Pat Cummins and Prasidh Krishna have been impressive, the duo of Kamlesh Nagarkoti and Shivam Mavi has been very inconsistent. With Andre Russell‘s fitness under the radar, they need a quality third pacer to get the balance right.
Chetan Sakariya’s inclusion will fill every void the attack has been suffering from. In addition to that, the Saurashtra quick can unburden Russell’s death over responsibility aiding him to focus on his batting which has been patchy lately. Sakariya will also help the overburdened spin department in the middle overs too. In short, Sakariya could be the answer to all of KKR’s woes this season.
Sunrisers Hyderabad

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) is hailed as one of the most balanced sides in the history of the league. But IPL 2021 saw the Sunrisers fail miserably and one big reason for it, second to their nonexistent middle order, is an ineffective pace battery. With both Sandeep Sharma and Bhuvneshwar Kumar failing to make an impact this season, they are in desperate need of an Indian pacer.
Chetan Sakariya will prove to be a good addition given their death bowling woes lately. Sakariya’s inclusion will also ease the burden on Rashid Khan in the middle overs. The budding speedster could replace Khaleel Ahmed who has not been very consistent even after making his international debut. Sakariya will be like for like replacement and can be the support the senior pacers in Bhuvneshwar and Sandeep need.
