Rahul Chahar
Young leg spinner Rahul Chahar has become an integral part of the Mumbai Indians squad for the last three seasons. He was roped in by Mumbai Indians in 2019 and since then he has performed exceptionally well and played a crucial role to help Mumbai win back-to-back titles in 2019 and 2020.
In 2019, Rahul Chahar picked up 13 wickets in as many matches, but the thing that was most notable about it was his economy (6.55). He bowled tight lines and contained the batters in the middle overs. Chahar continued his brilliant performance in the next season too with 15 wickets in as many matches.
His latest performances in the now-suspended IPL 2021 would have caught the attention of several other franchises ahead of the IPL 2022 Auction. Chahar was the third-highest wicket-taker with 11 wickets in just seven matches.
Let’s take a look at the three IPL teams that might bid for Rahul Chahar in IPL 2022 Auction:
Mumbai Indians
Five-time champions, Mumbai Indians are known to stick to their core team instead of roping in big buys in the auction. Rahul Chahar who has performed consistently for them would surely be on their list of players for the IPL 2022 mega auction.
Mumbai Indians have had a well-settled side for the past few seasons. Their only void was a dependable spin bowler which Rahul Chahar has filled in with his performances. MI will definitely try to rope him in and continue with their core players.
Chennai Super Kings
Chennai Super Kings have had difficulties finding a spin bowler to support Ravindra Jadeja. They have Imran Tahir in the squad, who might retire next year and even if he doesn’t, playing Imran Tahir would mean CSK would have to compromise on their other overseas players. In 2020, they had Piyush Chawla to their services but he didn’t perform as per his expectations.
The addition of in-form Rahul Chahar would bring the right balance CSK needs to succeed in the tournament. They would most probably be in the race to grab the young leg spinner in the 2022 IPL mega auction.
Sunrisers Hyderabad
For the last 3-4 seasons Sunrisers Hyderabad have been highly dependent on Rashid Khan to get the wickets in the middle order. In 2021, they had the services of Mujeeb-ur-Rahman but they were not able to fit him into the playing XI owing to their overseas combination.
Rahul Chahar can play a supporting hand to Rashid Khan without compromising the overseas structure. SRH would definitely try to get the services of Rahul Chahar in the IPL 2022.
