Chennai Super Kings have been one of the most consistent teams in IPL history. The team has made it to the the playoffs 11 times in the 12 seasons that they have been a part of. The MS Dhoni-led side have also won the IPL title on three occasions.
The IPL 2020 campaign was however a disappointing one for the Super Kings as they finished 7th on the points table and missed out on the playoffs for the first time ever. The management was criticized for not giving chances to young players despite the team not performing well. But come the IPL 2021, the team has made a stellar comeback and were looking as the prime prospects of clinching the title before the tournament was suspended indefinitely.
The team this year had the proper balance of Indian players and overseas players with good bench strength. Ahead of IPL 2022, CSK would look to build a team with a similar structure around their core players.

Ravindra Jadeja
Ravindra Jadeja would be the first player Chennai Super Kings would retain ahead of the IPL 2022 auction. The way he has progressed as an all-rounder in the last few years for CSK as well as for the Indian team has been exceptional. The player is considered one of the best all-rounder in modern-day cricket.
The impact he creates on the field is unmatchable. In IPL 2021, he was promoted up the batting order and scored 131 runs at an average of 131 and a massive strike rate of 161.72. In a match against RCB, he smashed 37 runs in the last over followed by a 3-wicket haul and a run-out.
Deepak Chahar
Deepak Chahar has been a part of the Chennai Super Kings squad since 2018 and has delivered for them consistently. He played a crucial role in CSK’s triumph in 2018 and runner-up finish in 2019.
His ability to swing the ball both ways and provide breakthroughs in the initial overs has made him MS Dhoni go-to bowler for CSK. His consistency and reliability would most likely see him being retained by CSK ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction.
MS Dhoni
MS Dhoni has been leading Chennai Super Kings right from the start i.e IPL 2008. Dhoni has played a major role in the success CSK have achieved over the years. Recently, there have been speculations of IPL 2021 being the swansong of MS Dhoni but it is expected that he might continue for another season.
His performance with the bat hasn’t been up to the mark for the last few seasons but the way he has captained the side has been tremendous. His ability to absorb pressure and take quick decisions under pressure is what every team wants. He has been through every ups and lows of CSK and they would likely retain him ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction.
