5 Indian players who coached foreign teams
Sandeep Patil and Robin Singh
The Indian cricket team witnessed a great trend of having overseas coaches in the dressing room for a very long time till the late early 2010s. But all of them weren’t able to land monumental success in favour of the ‘Asian Giants’. On the other hand, not many Indian faces have been seen in the coaching panels of the top foreign team across the globe.
Some of the former Indian cricketers did shift abroad to explore more opportunities in the second innings of their careers. Now, let’s look at the top such names who coached foreign teams:
Robin Singh
One of the greatest Indian fielders of the ‘90s, Robin Singh is a popular name in the cricket coaching arena. He has held posts in both Hong Kong and the USA before joining as the coach of the Barbados Tridents in the Caribbean Premier League. Interestingly, he has also been the fielding coach of Team India as well as Mumbai Indians (MI) in the IPL.
Sunil Joshi
Just like Robin Singh, former India spin bowler Sunil Joshi has been associated with multiple sides in the past. He was roped in by the Oman Cricket Team, headed by Sri Lanka’s former cricketer Duleep Mendis. ahead of the ICC World Twenty20 in India in March 2016. The southpaw later joined Bangladesh as their spin bowling consultant.
Sandeep Patil
Flamboyant India batter and member of the 1983 World Cup-winning side, Sandeep Patil overtook the coach position in Kenya and led them towards the semi-final round in the World Cup 2003. Notably, this still remains one of the biggest achievements in the cricket history book of the Kenyan side. He has also served as the coach of the Indian national team for a while.
Lalchand Rajput
Former India cricketer Lalchand Rajput was considered as one of the most technically-sound batters of his time. The Mumbai cricketer went on to replace legendary Pakistan cricketer Inzamam ul Haq as the coach of Afghanistan. During his stint, the rising nation registered a couple of important wins. Meanwhile, he is currently the head coach of Zimbabwe.
Manoj Prabhakar
Former India fast bowler Manoj Prabhakar was signed up as the bowling coach of the Afghanistan national team back in December 2015. Notably, the Delhi cricketer was a member of the Afghan’s team coaching staff alongside Inzamam prior to the tenure of Lalchand Rajput. The 58-year-old has also been a part of a few domestic teams in the Ranji Trophy.
