After Ollie Robinson’s suspension, ECB investigates Eoin Morgan and Jos Buttler as old tweets mocking Indians resurface

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has probed investigation into ‘derogatory’ tweets from English cricketers Eoin Morgan and Jos Buttler. As per reports, the English duo mimicked the Indians by calling them ‘Sir’ and allegedly mocked them as well.

The England skipper used the word ‘Sir’ for congratulating Buttler on May 13, 2018. On the very same day, Buttler had smashed an unbeaten 94 runs off 53 deliveries. Later, New Zealand legend and current Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) coach Brendon McCullum had also reacted to Morgan’s tweet. Some of these messages have been deleted from the micro-blogging platform after massive criticism from cricket fans.

 “I always reply sir no1 else like me like you like me” from Jos Buttler and, “Sir, you play very good opening batting” from Eoin Morgan.

The investigation report confirmed that the ECB will take a call on Morgan and Buttler after going through the due investigations.

Meanwhile, England head coach Chris Silverwood opened up on the ongoing chapter of debutant Ollie Robinson. The 27-year old had a dream maiden Test game against New Zealand as he scored 42 with the bat and claimed seven wickets as well. However, he was handed over a suspension by the Board for his past ‘racial and sexist’ tweets resurfaced on social media.

Silverwood expressed his disappointment on this entire chapter while mentioning that this incident will turn out to be a great learning outcome for the youngster.

“What should have been one of the greatest days of Ollie’s career didn’t end up well for him. It was disappointing for the group. It was a stark reminder for us all of the responsibilities that we hold in the position that we are in,” Silverwood was quoted as saying.

“There is absolutely no place in this game for any form of discrimination whatsoever. He showed a lot of remorse, he apologised publicly, he apologised to the dressing room. I think it’s been a really big learning for him,” he stated.

“The big thing for us all is education. We are all striving to be better, none of us is perfect, and we all need to make sure we are learning all the time. We can make sure the world is a better place,” Silverwood added.
