“I’d like to become a player like him” Akeal Hosein’s old tweet goes viral as he does a Ravindra Jadeja against England

West Indies succumbed to a torrid run against England as they failed to show any intent or character. The massive six-run defeat has also raised a lot of questions for West Indies as the team needs to make a comeback at the earliest to make an impact in the T20 World Cup 2021. The left-arm orthodox bowler Akeal Hosein was the silver lining for the Indies in an otherwise disastrous outing.
Though the West Indies bowlers had just 56 runs to defend in 20 overs, Akeal Hosein flaunted his class and talent with the willow. The spinner took his first wicket of the night in the fourth over as he dismissed veteran wicketkeeper-batsman Jonny Bairstow. On the first delivery of the fourth over, Akeal dragged his length by a fraction to prompt the English batter to reach out for the drive.

Jonny fell in the trap as he mistimed the shot and standing at the non-striker’s end, the bowler took a stunning one-handed catch in the air. The marvelous catch by Akeal impressed many in the cricket fraternity. Meanwhile, a fan dug out an old tweet of Akeal where the bowler had expressed his desire of becoming like India’s decorated all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.
Notably, apart from being a decent batter and bowler, Jadeja is regarded as the best fielder of the present time. There have been many times when the spinner has taken astonishing one-handed catches to give breakthroughs to his team. Thus a Twitter user shared a snap where Akeal and his old Ravindra Jadeja can be seen taking a catch in a similar manner.
“One day…I’d like to become a player like him…@imjadeja” Akeal had tweeted in 2013.
Meanwhile, the victory against West Indies has put England at the top of the points table in Group A. England will fancy continuing the momentum to confirm their qualification for the semi-finals.
