Andre Russell

The Wankhede Stadium was rocked by Andre Russell mayhem as Kolkata Knight Riders thrashed Punjab Kings by six wickets to claim their second IPL 2022 victory. As KKR chased down 138 in 15 overs, the West Indies dasher Andre Russell was at his lethal best. Aside from him, Umesh Yadav shone in the game, taking four wickets.

Earlier in the game, KKR won the toss and chose to bowl at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. As PBKS lost their skipper Mayank Agarwal in the first over, Umesh Yadav continued to wreak havoc with the new ball. Bhanuka Rajapaksa, on the other hand, arrived at number three, and there were fireworks all over the park. The southpaw only lasted nine balls but managed to score 31 runs with three fours and as many sixes.

Aside from Rajapaksa, many other Punjab batters got starts, including Shikhar Dhawan, Liam Livingstone, and Raj Bawa. With KKR bowlers striking at regular intervals, none of them were able to play a significant knock. Umesh was razor-sharp with the ball in hand, recording his best IPL figures of 4/23. Tim Southee also took a couple of wickets in addition to him.

Meanwhile, Kagiso Rabada’s handy 25-run cameo helped Punjab reach 137 before losing their last wicket in the penultimate over of the innings. In response, KKR got off to a shaky start, with Ajinkya Rahane being dismissed in the first over. Venkatesh Iyer, his opening partner, struggled as well.

KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer then teamed up with Sam Billings to take the team past the 50-run mark. However, their dismissal in quick succession put KKR in trouble at 51/4. Nonetheless, the Andre Russell show began, and the ball was flying all over the place.

For fun, he smashed the ball and knocked PBKS out of the competition. Andre Russell hit eight sixes in his unbeaten 70 off 31 deliveries as the Knight Riders won the match by six wickets in just 14.3 overs.
