“The greatest in the world!”-Australia hammers England and annex record breaking seventh World Cup trophy
Australian women's team
Australia, the world no. 1 team, is not accustomed to face defeat, dominated the whole time in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2022.
Thrashing the defending champion and their traditional rival England by 71 runs, Australia clenched the huge trophy for a record seven times on Sunday, April 3 in Christchurch.
With a sensational knock of 170 runs off 138 balls from Alyssa Healy’s bat, that also broke many records, Australia reached a massive total of 365/5. This score is the highest team total in a World Cup final and second highest behind Australia’s men team’s 359/2 against India in 2003.
England knew they needed a special knock to pull off the record chase. England’s Natalie Sciver scored an unbeaten 148 off 121 balls, but the pressure bundled everyone out for 285 in just 43.4 overs.

Australia’s Alyssa Healy breaks record
Healy’s score of 170 is the highest-ever score in a World Cup final across men and women’s cricket. She surpassed former Australian Adam Gilchrist who had scored 149 runs in the final in 2007. After getting lucky due to a dropped catch when she was on 41, Healy just played around with England’s bowlers. She won the Player of the Tournament with her record-breaking total score of 509.
“I think, we’ve been extremely consistent over a long period of time and to come out and perform so well over the whole tournament was great. We knew we had to have a number of different people perform, and we did, young players keeping more experienced players on their toes. Alyssa was incredible, I’m probably not surprised to be honest, she’s done it before.” Said Aussie captain Meg Lanning after the match.
“Nat Sciver is an incredible player, special innings which in any other way could have been a match winning one. What’s next? We’ll collaborate this one first, it’s really important to look back at this period and how successful it’s been, it hadn’t been easy, they’ve been ups and downs in this thing.” She added.
