ENG vs IND: Player ratings for India; Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah lead the charts

Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah

The England versus India 2021 Test series has come to an undesired end after the fifth and final match in Manchester was called off. The BCCI and ECB took this decision of cancellation after the COVID-19 outbreak took place in the Indian camp.

The Virat Kohli-led side had a 2-1 edge over the opposition at the end of the historic fourth Test match at The Oval. The visitors witnessed some outstanding individual performances and here are the player ratings for India in the recently-concluded England series.

  • Rohit Sharma – 9 Points

The opening batsman Rohit Sharma emerged as India’s most successful batsman with 368 runs in eight innings, averaging 52.57. Meanwhile, he also recorded his maiden overseas Test century with a brilliant knock of 127 at The Oval.

  • KL Rahul – 7.5 Points

KL Rahul did a phenomenal job as an opener in the absence of Shubman Gill and Mayank Agarwal. He started the series with a bang, smashing 84 in the opening Test match, followed by a memorable ton at the Lord’s.

  • Cheteshwar Pujara – 6.5 Points

India’s one of the most dependable batsmen in Test cricket, Cheteshwar Pujara wasn’t at his best in the initial few matches. However, he played some vital knocks of 45, 91, and 61 towards the later stage.

  • Virat Kohli – 7 Points

Virat Kohli’s wait for his 71st international ton continued even at the end of the England series. He managed to score just 218 runs in seven innings, however, his aggressive captaincy was excellent and resulted in India’s domination most of the time.

  • Ajinkya Rahane – 2.5 Points

India’s Test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane turned out to be the biggest disappointments for the visiting side. He ended the series with 109 runs at a mediocre average of over 15, comprising a solitary half-century.

  • Rishabh Pant – 5 Points

Rishabh Pant had shown a great improvement in his wicket-keeping skills during the England series. On the other hand, he failed to continue with his dream run with the bat, scoring just 146 runs in seven innings.

  • Ravindra Jadeja – 6 Points

India’s star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja wasn’t at his best with both bat and ball against the Englishmen. He ended the series with 160 runs and six wickets. The southpaw was even promoted ahead of Rahane in the fourth Test.

  • Shardul Thakur – 8.5 Points

Shardul Thakur emerged as India’s one of the best players in the series as he made contributions in the most significant situations. Most importantly, he smashed twin fifties at the Oval Test which laid the foundation of Kohli’ men’s triumph.

  • Mohammed Shami – 6.5 Points

Mohammed Shami did a decent job with the ball, claiming 11 wickets in three Test matches. The speedster also smashed an entertaining fifty at the Lord’s which added some crucial runs to India’s second innings total.

  • Jasprit Bumrah – 9 Points

Pacer Jasprit Bumrah was the pick of the Indian bowlers as he emerged as the leading wicket-taker(18) for the Asian Giants. He claimed wickets whenever skipper Kohli was in dire need of breaking a partnership.

  • Mohammed Siraj – 5.5 Points

Mohammed Siraj was Indian playing XI’s consistent member in all four matches of the series. He bowled some lethal spells in patches and lacked consistency with line and length during his journey of 14 wickets.

  • Ishant Sharma – 3 Points

India’s most experienced bowler led the visitors down with his overall performance in the UK. The lanky speedster took just five wickets in two matches before he was rested in the following two games.

  • Umesh Yadav – 7 Points

Umesh Yadav did well in the lone Test match he played in the fourth and final Test match. He ended the game with six wickets, however, his performance was overshadowed by the likes of Bumrah and Thakur.
