ENG vs IND: “The most challenging innings I have played” – Rohit Sharma on his 83-run knock in Lord’s Test
Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma played an outstanding knock of 83 runs during the second Test match against England at the Lord’s Cricket Ground, London. The Hitman also smashed 11 fours and a six before getting out to a brilliant ball off veteran pacer James Anderson.
The 34-year-old has shut all critics and successfully cemented his place as the Indian Test opener in the overseas games as well. He has been in terrific form in red-ball cricket since the 2019 home series against South Africa.
Rohit Sharma has stated that his recent innings of 83 runs will be the most challenging one if not the best knock. The right-handed batsman further expressed his happiness on India’s current position in the ongoing Test match in London.
“I wouldn’t say the best because as long as you are playing. There will be a lot of opportunities that you will be having. But yes certainly challenging, the most challenging innings I have played. I felt very good, I was happy with the way we started off. Unfortunate dismissal but I couldn’t have done anything to that,” said Sharma during the post-stumps press conference.
“You have to cut down the unnecessary shots when the conditions are against you”
The Mumbaikar highlighted that the batsmen sometimes need to cut out on a few shots during unfavourable conditions, especially against the new ball.
“That’s the challenge of Test cricket, you may have lots of shots in your book but when the conditions are against you, you have to keep talking to yourself and cut down the unnecessary shots especially with the new ball,” said Rohit Sharma.
He signed off while saying that the Indian batsmen now understand their role in the side.
“Once you get the feel of the pitch, once you get the conditions then maybe you can try and play some shots but I think it is important to respect the conditions here. As a batting group, we have done reasonably well right from Australia tour till today, I think batters now understand their role,” concluded Sharma.
