IPL 2022: “Garma Garam Chairs” – Fans unhappy with seating arrangement in Brabourne Stadium

The Mumbai Indians, the five-time champions, began their IPL 2022 campaign on Sunday afternoon against the Delhi Capitals. At 3.30 p.m., the match began at Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium.

However, even before the game began, fans at the stadium expressed their dissatisfaction with the facilities. On Twitter, one fan chastised the BCCI for providing simple plastic chairs in the sweltering heat of Mumbai – and that for tickets priced at 3000 and above.

The user tweeted a photo of the chairs aligned at the Brabourne to let everyone else, as well as the BCCI, know about the dross seating arrangement provided for the fans. The plastic chairs make it extremely difficult for fans to sit and watch and enjoy the game during the game.

The tournament is being held at four different venues: Wankhede and Brabourne Stadiums in Mumbai, as well as the DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai and the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.

Some franchises had previously objected because the Mumbai Indians have home games in their city. The BCCI, on the other hand, explained that they wanted to avoid air travel – which the board believes was the cause of covid-19 transmission among franchises last year, which brought the tournament to a halt – and thus chose Mumbai and Pune as the league stage venues.

The Mumbai Indians captain, Rohit Sharma, was also asked about his thoughts on his team receiving home matches. Sharma pointed out that they haven’t played in Mumbai for the past two seasons, and that the majority of their players are from other cities.
