Harbhajan Singh lashes out at BCCI for leaving out domestic star from India A squad for South Africa tour
Harbhajan Singh lashes out at BCCI
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has named India A squad for South Africa. While the side featured quite some big names, Harbhajan Singh is not happy over the exclusion of a domestic star. The team which will be led by Priyank Panchal boasted some renowned IPL players in Prithvi Shaw, Rahul Chahar and Devdutt Padikkal.
Barring the big guns, the likes of Abhimanyu Easwaran, Sarfaraz Khan, Baba Aparajith, Ishan Porel and Arzan Nagwaswalla were called up for the tour. The South Africa tour holds quite some importance with a senior team tour coming up early next year and is a golden opportunity for youngsters to grab the attention of the selectors.
India ‘A’ Squad: Priyank Panchal (Captain), Prithvi Shaw, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Devdutt Padikkal, Sarfaraz Khan, Baba Aparajith, Upendra Yadav (wicket-keeper), K Gowtham, Rahul Chahar, Saurabh Kumar, Navdeep Saini, Umran Malik, Ishan Porel, Arzan Nagwaswalla
Harbhajan Singh bats for the inclusion of KKR teammate
Harbhajan Singh is furious over the commission of Kolkata Knight Riders teammate Sheldon Jackson. Since his first-class debut back in 2006, the 35-year-old has amassed 5634 runs in 76 matches with 19 centuries and 27 fifties at an average of 49.42 and the highest score of 186.
Sheldon Jackson is in tremendous form in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The veteran batsman has scored three back to back fifties against Uttarakhand, Chandigarh and Delhi. Despite such a top performance, he is not being considered for the India A team.
“Ranji season 2018/19 scored 854 and 2019/2020 scored 809 and also Ranji champion that year plus this year current form yet not getting picked even for India A team. Can selectors tell him what else he need to do to ply for India apart from scoring runs,” Harbhajan’s tweet read.
Sheldon Jackson too has expressed his frustration over the indefinite snub on multiple occasions. While he has not done much wrong, it is his age that might be the only obstacle between him and an Indian team call up. The Indian selectors have gone with young players or the players who can at least give a significant amount of time at the national set-up. And at the age of 35, Sheldon doesn’t have much cricket left.
