Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya has refuted the reports of custom officials at Mumbai airport seizing his luxury watches worth Rs 5 crore. A report by ANI suggested that two watches were seized by the Customs Department because Pandya, who was returning from Dubai following the end of the T20 World Cup, allegedly did not have a bill for them.

The stylish all-rounder took to Twitter to clear the air around the issue. Pandya revealed that he voluntarily approached the Mumbai airport customs counter to declare the items and pay the requisite duty for them. He added that all the required documents have been submitted with the officials and they are looking into the proper valuation of the assets.

I voluntarily went to Mumbai airport customs counter to declare the items brought by me and pay the requisite customs duty. Wrong perceptions have been floating around on social media regarding my declaration to customs at Mumbai airport, and I would like to clarify about what transpired.

I had voluntarily declared all the items that I’d lawfully purchased from Dubai and was ready to pay whatever duties that needed to be paid. As a matter of fact, the customs department had asked for all purchase documents which were submitted; however customs is doing proper valuation for duty which I’ve already confirmed to pay,” he said.

Hardik Pandya seemed discontent with the rumours that have been making rounds on social media. Pandya asserted that he has the utmost respect for the government agencies and being a “law-abiding citizen” he is ready to fully cooperate with the inquiry. The 28-year-old went on to add that his watches were worth Rs 1.5 crore contrary to the reports which have emerged.

The cost of the watch is approximately ₹ 1.5 crore and not ₹ 5 crores as per the rumours floating around on social media. I’m a law-abiding citizen of the country and I respect all government agencies. I’ve received all the cooperation from the Mumbai customs department and I’ve assured my full cooperation to them and will provide them with whatever legitimate documents they need to get this matter cleared. All allegations against me of crossing any legal boundaries are totally unfounded,” he added.

It has been turbulent for Hardik Pandya on and off the field for some time now. Ever since his back injury, Pandya hasn’t been his old self on the field. IPL 2021 saw him falter with the bat and the case was the same for the majority of the T20 World Cup 2021. With him being dropped from the Indian side for the New Zealand tour, Pandya has much ground to cover if he is to bounce back strongly.
