IND vs SL: “Would like to play in all three formats if I get the chance” – Bhuvneshwar Kumar
Bhuvneshawar Kumar
Team India’s vice-captain for the limited-overs series against Sri Lanka, Bhuvneshwar Kumar has expressed his wish to play in all three formats for the national side.
The 31-year-old was not picked in the Indian squad bound for the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Final against New Zealand, alongside the five-match Test series against England. Moreover, some reports even surfaced on social media, claiming that Kumar was keen on playing white-ball cricket only. But Bhuvneshwar had rubbished these rumours with a straightforward tweet from his official handle.
During a virtual press conference ahead of the India vs Sri Lanka 2021 series, the right-arm medium-pacer has once again stated that he would like to play in all three formats. Bhuvi also mentioned that he is not prioritising any form of the game over others.
“I don’t have a set priority between white-ball and red-ball cricket. If I am selected to play red-ball cricket then definitely I would like to contribute,” he said. “But I am not looking to prioritize anything. I would like to play in all three formats if I get the chance. I am not looking way ahead but definitely, I would prepare myself to play all three formats,” Kumar said.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar also talked about his long-going battle with injuries. He reckoned that they are part and parcel of a cricketer’s career.
“Injuries and ups and downs happen in a career. I just try to recover from injuries as soon as I can and get back to contributing to my best,” he added.
“Kuldeep Yadav is in his peak confidence”
The Meerut-born further talked about the form of Kuldeep Yadav right before the start of the Sri Lanka series. He backed Yadav to come good against the island nation as well as the second phase of IPL 2021 in the UAE.
“He has done well in the practice matches. What I have seen is he is in his peak confidence, what we generally see of him. I’m sure if he does well in this series, he will be very confident of doing well in the IPL, or the World Cup,” Bhuvneshwar Kumar concluded.
