IND vs SL: “You will see a more confident Yuzi in this series” – Yuzvendra Chahal

Current ace Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal is looking high on confidence ahead of the limited-overs series against Sri Lanka. The 30-year-old has looked a bit off-colour since the past few months and has got a point to prove for the national side.

Yuzvendra Chahal was not a part of team India during the last One Day International (ODI) game against England as youngster Rahul Chahar replaced him in the side. Moreover, he lacked consistency and form while playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) during this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL) season.

During a pre-series virtual press conference, Chahal mentioned that he would like to stick to the basics while not experimenting much. The Jind-born stated that he’s working on the angles and expects to bowl with a lot more confidence against the island nation.

“I have a couple of variations and I’m focusing on that only, not using other deliveries. You will see a more confident Yuzi in this series. I’m just working on my angles and in general, trying to bowl more,” Chahal told reporters.

“You can’t perform in every match”

Yuzvendra Chahal reckoned that he is not worried about his performance as it’s just a matter of time. The RCB spinner also highlighted the importance of the Sri Lanka series.

“My performance – I don’t think it was a dip (in form) or anything. You can’t perform in every match. I will try my level best. This series is very important to me. I keep talking to the bowling coach. There is confidence now … My main focus at the moment is just this series,” he added.

He concluded while saying that the second phase of IPL 2021 will also help to regain his rhythm ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup later this year in the UAE.

“There’s been lesser cricket over the last year, but that’s not in our hands. Whatever series happens, we want to perform. Then, my focus would be IPL and then the World T20,” he signed off.

India and Sri Lanka are scheduled to play three ODIs and three T20Is, starting from July 13 at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
