IPL 2021: Mohammad Nabi scripts history; claims five catches against Mumbai Indians

Mohammad Nabi
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) all-rounder Mohammad Nabi marked a unique feat on Friday as he became the first player to claim five catches in an Indian Premier League (IPL) match. This came during SRH’s clash against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi.
The former Afghan skipper grabbed the catches of Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, James Neesham, Krunal Pandya, and Nathan Coulter-Nile.
The right-hander got a chance in the playing XI after waiting for a significant time in the dugout. Apart from his fielding brilliance, Nabi was unable to impress in the other two departments against the defending champions. He gave away 33 runs in three overs with the ball and could only manage to play an innings of 3 (4).
Coming to the result of the game, Manish Pandey and his men suffered a 42-runs defeat in a high-scoring affair. Meanwhile, the Hyderabad-based franchise alongside the MI Paltan also exited the tournament after missing out on respective spots in the playoffs.
“It is difficult sitting on the bench” – Nabi

After the match, Mohammad Nabi mentioned that it was a problematic thing for him to warm the bench the whole season and getting selected for a match. The 36-year-old also talked about his record of claiming five catches in match 55 of IPL 2021.
“As a cricketer, it is difficult sitting on the bench and then being chosen for a game. It was our last match, so the management told me that I am free to play. I tried to bowl economical spells, Mumbai got off to a good start. I got an opportunity, it is tough to play a game after a long time.
“When the catches come, will take it. Grabbing on to the chances is crucial, I focus on my fielding. I took five catches and it was good to take them,” Nabi said at the post-match press conference.
