Team India and Gujrat Titans’ fast bowler, Mohammed Shami has been observing the development of SRH’s young bowler Umran Malik. The veteran, while appreciating Malik’s ability to generate enormous pace thinks that the youngster still needs time to mature and become better at controlling his line and lengths.

Umran Malik bowled the fastest ball of IPL 2022 and second fastest in history in Sunrisres Hyderabad’s game against Delhi Capitals. The youngster managed to clock speeds of 157, only to be hit for boundaries by Rovman Powell. This season, Umran Malik has been crucial for Sunrisers in picking up wickets, 15 in 11 games. Placing him 14th in the Purple Cap race. However, Malik has been quite expensive as well. Bowling at an economy of 9.10.

Mohammed Shami call for Umran Malik to mature and add more tricks to his game

“I admit that pace is there but personally speaking, I am not a huge fan of pace. I believe if you can bowl 140kmph and move the ball both ways as well as reverse (swing), then it’s enough to (trouble) the batters. He has incredible pace but he still needs some more time to mature in my opinion as apart from pace, we also have to apply ourselves.”

Mohammed Shami later also gave his opinion on LSG’s fast bowler, Mohsin Khan, another young Indian fast bowler. For a while now, Mohammed Shami had been carrying India’s fast bowling line-up especially when it came to pace and bounce. While Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah brought an arsenal of variations and unplayable yorkers.

However, in the last few years, India has seen a massive development of young talents and especially fast bowlers. Umran Malik, Mohsin Khan, Navdeep Saini, Shivam Mavi are just a few of the many players setting stages in fire with their quick bowling. It will be interesting to see who India partner Bumrah with in the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia.
