Is Rohit Sharma playing today’s MI vs KKR IPL 2021 Match?
Rohit Sharma
The opening game of the second leg of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 saw Mumbai Indians’ skipper Rohit Sharma missing from action. Rohit was seen warming up ahead of the crucial encounter with their arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings (CSK). But didn’t walk out for the toss.
Not much is known about the reason why the destructive opener chose to sit out such a crucial game. Stand-in captain Kieron Pollard refused to comment over the matter as he assured that Rohit is fine and will be back in the side soon during the toss. “Rohit is okay, we will see him sooner rather than later. He’s the captain of this ship, I’m just standing in,” Pollard said.
Will Rohit Sharma return for the match against KKR?
The Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma is expected to return for the team’s second clash. MI will be going head to head against Kolkata Knight Riders, who are in good touch. The men in blue will be looking up to Rohit to lead from the front if they are to stay alive in the race for the playoffs.
As of the reason why the dashing opener missed the CSK game, reports suggest that it was a move by the franchise to manage Rohit’s workload. The skipper plays in three formats for the national team and with the T20 World Cup coming up, it is important that he is fit and fresh for the marquee tournament.
“We (the franchise) keep India first. He’s keeping India first. The World Cup is scheduled after the IPL. Every single aspect of his workload will be managed from a precautionary POV keeping his Team India objectives in mind,” a source related to the development was quoted by Times of India.
